Seeking advice on initial setup.

Here is most everything I know about it.

Did the complete install on a 2014 Cascadia,
I used the bird perch mount on the drivers mirror bolts to start.

The stock coax is goes through a diplex box that uses the same antenna for TV,CB and stereo.....not good at all for CB.
No range at all with the stock setup.

The sunglasses holder comes out with two screws and a full size radio just fits the hole.

I ran brand new coax,new mount and started testing antennas.
The Wilsons would not tune well with the center load coils.

Next was a 5.5 Hotrod antenna I bought from Amazon along with a Ranger SRA 198 mic.

Screwed the antenna on and actually all i had to do was angle it forward about 15 degrees and the SWR was pretty dead on.

This was with a old Galaxy 44V radio.

All the radio checks said sounded top shelf.

I did try the Wilson 5000 and a 2000...not bad but SWR I could not get low enough.

 

Nothing to do with cb's, but who told you the cascadia would be retired. Husband has a 2013 and thought his would be retired based on mileage and since his dm is in charge of both him and his buddy, she let his buddy know that swift rebuilds freightliners and doesnt turn them in, because she didnt have the heart to tell my husband he is probably stuck with his truck.

 

I would suggest a professional installer. I know we are not supposed to promote our own business, but seeing as its not mine I will suggest 440 Cb shop.
You can find him by Google, or his Facebook page.
He is an electrical engineer and does amazing work. He will set it up how you want it and make it look completely stock if you wish. He is not a snip and clip cb guy. 440 will walk you through everything he does step by step and show the difference between his work and those other guys. Prices are very reasonable especially for the outcome.
