When I key up the mic all my dash and internal lights go dim..whats going on? It is hard wired to the battery and I was told I will "stress" out the ALT if I continue..

Your truck is not suppling enough current to run the amp, as to why that is I can not say without seeing the truck, So is the truck more important than the amp, dont use it till a mechanic finds the problem.
Could be as little as a bad or missing ground cable, could be as much as bad alt and batteries. Can not diagnose over the internet. -
What Powder Joints said...Your alternator's not putting out enough to run the Amp+the vehicle...
2 things you can do...either get a alternator that put's out more amperage, OR add another battery.
With all the cold weather, it also could be the battery you have is on it's last-leg...Be sure you have a good hot battery to start with. -
