In order to create them i pulled (very carefully) the coax until I seen the other end move, getting rid of about a foot of cable on each side that was bunched up under the dash. In your oppinion was it the shortening of cable, the balun or the combination of both that helped?

Theres always the other option.......I could be nutz.

What you did was create a balun and that stops RF from traveling back down your feedline (coax). Your SWR meter reads reflected power, or RF that is traveling back down your feedline. See?

SWR is something most hams will tell you is not as important as many believe it is. 2:1 is an 11% or barely perceptable loss. An SWR meter can tell when you have a problem. More important is the efficiency of the whole antenna system. You boosted your efficiency.

Good Job!

More features, less quality. More channels, power and problems. It is also illegal.

Just wanted to let you know, that I went back, the other night, and looked at some of your old posts, and have to say, "impressive". I learned a lot from you, and was hoping to hear from you again.

You should have seen the way my buddy's eyes lit up when I handed him my General A.P. Hill the other night. He asked how much he owed me, and I told him nothing, but that the radio was illegal, but since he wanted it so bad, he could have it. (It wasn't on the list, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they over looked it) Someone stole my Cobra 29ltd and was using the General for a while, before replacing the Cobra.

Well thanks! Nice to meet you. I have been away since May due to illness that disqualified me to drive. Sick and broke sux!

My health is improved although I will never be allowed to drive again but the financial situation has allowed me to have internet and groceries at the same time.

On to your radio, There is a very slim chance of anyone being caught as long as they stay on the CB frequencies (40 of them). Chances get better if you stray into the other frequencies. The penalty is the scary part.

Re: Connex 4600 Turbo

Yeah, and I take no chances with my life, wife, or money.
Hey, do me a favor, and list the best set up for "out of the box" operating,
to include:
radio (Cobra 29ltd)
mic (Road King noice cancelling)
antenna (pair of Wilson 2000)
Cable (One made for me at Mesa, in Wildwood, Florida)
external speaker (Chrome, Aw, I think it's a Texas Ranger of something like that. Real heavy. I bought it also from Mesa for like $50. Hope you know which one I'm referring to)
The statements in () list what I am using now, but don't let that sway your advice. I saw that you had listed quite a few of each of the many posts I read, but would like for you to tell me, in your educated opinion, exactly what the best setup available, even if it means dumping some of my current toys.
The only thing I want to do to the radio is add "talk back", and refresh my memory on your thoughts of tuning and peaking.

Thanks in advance for your reply,
John

Re: Connex 4600 Turbo

All good choices:

What brand coax did you buy?

Believe it or not.......The firestick or Wilson SIlver Load will out perform your WIlson 2000 because they are 5/8ths wave.

As to tuning, The important thing is that they leave the Modulation limiter in and do not exceed 100% modulation. Make sure that they use a scope when they tune your radio.

You were wise to purchase a quality speaker.
