I was glad to do a search and find a thread about Ham in the truck. Glad I'm not the only crazy one!

I'll put both radios in mine just for the sake of having a CB, but I really cannot stand listening to it, most of the time. The only reason my grandfathers trucks have them is because the Coal mines require them for safety.

I ran a Icom706mk2G with a autotuner and iron horse band specific antennas. 40 meters picked up the Detroit engine computer. It was enjoyable. Used to be a group of drivers on 14.302.50 in the afternoons. Eventually the 706 failed when I sent it to be repaired they said some components were loose so NYC may have been it's nemeses. I got tired of moving the equipment from truck to truck but may do it again in the future. If you run 2 meters the ARRL directory is not always accurate, had some folks get mad when I brought up supposedly open repeaters that were private. Did meet a lot of nice folks.

Or just strap my Motorola 2200 to the passenger seat and have most everything.

Stryker is not a Amateur radio. It's an Export CB radio. They are sold as 10 meter radios. But Ham radio operator use USB on 10 meters. And most Strykers are AM/FM only. Some only go to 28.305 Mhz. You are not allowed to talk below there. Also the FCC says no Amateur radios have a channel selector. If you are installing a Ham radio buy a real one. Like Alinco, Icom, Kenwood, or Yaesu. Not like a Galaxy, or Connex, or the ones you find sold in truck stops.

Yep I agree, they are not ham radios ... I call them junk but that's me.

There should be a law against this ... oh there is.

The amazing thing is I don't think they are actually tested and accepted radios. I may be wrong but ...

Not all of us do, I use AM a bit and FM sometimes but also have used LSB.

Actually it is 28.0-28.3 MHz but .305 is close enough.

OK please tell me where this is because I went thought my part 97 and could not find a thing about it.

I contend that no real ham radio has a channel selector like a CB but that doesn't mean they are not allowed.

    Agreed.

No Amateur radio displays channels. CB uses them. We use Frequencies. Now there are channels for 60 meters only. Which is 5 channels. But it still shows as Freqs. This one poster has only posted about Stryker Export CB radios. It's like he works for Stryker. And I know that you can use phone on 28.300-305. But below that it's CW. And mostly we use USB on 10. They are not tested and accepted radios. He even posted in one post ( in Stryker 955HPC )that all Ham radio dealers sell them. Which is not so.

I understand what you mean, I said no real ham radio has a channel selector (relative to CBs called ham radios) but you didn't answer the question.

However I have a few ham radios that have channel selectors, one of them has 22 channels - my Icom IC-22a. I have a few HF rigs that have four, five and ten channels where crystals were installed for Novice use.

Actually you can use Phone from 28.3 on wards, there are no restrictions.

This is what Reily told me.

The 28.305 that I speak of is the highest that the radio goes. I hold an Amateur Extra and I know where one can talk. But you can't use the radio where the radio won't go. So I was saying it not a for one to purchase for Amateur radio use.
