General question. i am new to lap tops and will be new to trucking. so when truck stops offer wifi. is it free or how much is it? How do you get internet in your truck. debsting signing up for a usb connection but hsate that 5 gig limit
I plan on cooking in truck. what i plan on is a toster oven, The one i like is a black and decker 1500 watt but probably will have to scale that back. a small crock pot. a small electric food processor a laptop computer and a small low watt microwave. not sure i will have space for all that. might add an hdtv. since so far do not like tv tuner plug in for computer. also found an 11 by 11 electric fry pan. a small refridgerator. and a magicjack to stay connected to home.

I get the best Service from my ATT Card, only downside is it doesn't work well around places like IdleAire.
If my phone works so does my laptop.Dont believe that Verizon BS my ATT gets me connected "EVERYWHERE",unlike Verizon and their BS commercial
Bout $60 per month on my plan -
Once in a while you will find a truck stop that has free WiFi most of them you have to pay..
I've had ATT and Sprint, Sprint sucked badly as does there cell service and ATT was a lot better.. -

I've been using my Flying J coupons/points to purchase the J wi-fi.
I also have the Verizon usb 5gig air card.
Whenever possible, I connect to the Flying J wi-fi, and save my gigs on the air card.
Also, whenever possible, if there is a hotel/motel next to the truck stop that has free wi-fi, I have hubby park next to it, and I can pick up their free wif-fi, thus saving time on my air card, again.

well with me i have a netflix membership and also thinking about a slingbox. so i think that 5 gigs will go in a heartbeat, my son has a friend that used to be a trucker and said things like internet and xm you would get tax breaks on. i am not so sure of that.

The verizon USB stick is $50 a month. Unless they changed it, I had no problem running it for streaming movie content. Even with the Idelaire in the vicinity, there was no problem with streaming.

Ive always claimed my ATT Bill, cant comment on the XM
-
If pushed on it one could claim the xm was needed for the weather channel I suppose..
Internet seems like that would be an easy one because of email from your company and searching the online load boards.. -
I've claimed my cell/aircard and Sirius for as long as I've had 'em and been driving. Never had a problem with either. My accountant says they're both business expenses.

I put up with truckstop wifi for a year , mostly because Flying J was so cheap and I stayed at a J 80% of the time . It seemed service got worse as time went on . I'd lose connection frequently . I finally broke down and got a Verizon MiFi . The superior connection is well worth the investment . I can also get online while being loaded or unloaded .
There are very few locations with free wifi . Some McDonalds have it .
