Does anyone use an app called Smart Truck Route GPS and what do you think about it?
Is it better to get a Rand McNally GPS or use a GPS app. Thanks....

I think it is way better to use a dedicated GPS. Larger screen, built in maps, sticks on the windshield or dash nicely, usually better audio, plus when the LEO stops you try explaining that you were not talking on the phone while driving.

if you are going to go with GPS then i reccomend using a Rand TND. If you dont want to spend the cash for one of those i reccomnd CoPilot Truck. Its based on PCMiler routing. Ive been using mine for the past several weeks and it is pretty decent. It gives you multiple routes to choose from, trip planning, point of interest searching, and it recalculates a lot faster than a standard GPS does. Its costs $150 for life, and you can get an add on for live traffic updates at $10 a year. This is a subject that has been beat to death like a dead horse, and someone is about to say Truckers Atlas. Yes a truckers atlas is a must, its great for going state to state, but when you get into the local routes, those Atlas' mean jack ####. And calling the customer for routing from the exits, works however you are still faced with having to take attention from the road to read directions from a sticky/note pad. If your radio in the truck has an audio jack input, you can run a cable from the phone or tablet to the the radio and have the directions over the speakers. below is the placement for my tablet that i use.

I agree with you both. I think I will spend the money and get the Rad McNally GPS.

Save your money and buy copilot. it's the closest thing your going to that actually works. you'll never have to replace a hand unit.

smart truck route requires Internet. so if you have no signal. you have no gps. and it requires a monthly fee. forever.

if your want free. try truck gps by Adonis I think it's called. I've tried it a couple of times. I need to play with it more.
