Hi there. I did my training and year of servitude with Swift so now I am looking around to see what's out there a little more in depth and I have a few question about Conway that I would be very greatful to have answers or opinions to that really arnt covered anywhere I can find so here goes:

What do the delivery schedules look like? Do they give you enough time to do the runs comfortably or are you always on edge worrying if your going to mame it on time?
Say you run into a bad accident and you know your going to be late, what are you suppose to do about in and what will the company do?
For instance at swift I would just send in a running late macro with a new eta and what happened "bad accident ahead" and they would not think another thing of it and count you as on time with the new eta.

How close do they work you to your clocks running out? Do they expect you to burn every last minute and no longer have time needed to find a rest area or some place to park?

What do you guys usually average in miles per week? At swift solo i can only seam to average 1700 or so because soon many loads have me waiting around to pick up or wait to deliver or I sit undispatched for a few hours. The Conway recruiter said I could average about 2500-2800 a week. How accurate is that?

How often do you actually go into NYC? or even Jeersy city? At swift I was always able to tell them I won't go to NYC but I know Conway is forced dispatch so if I get that run I know its just something I will have to get use to. The recruiter said only about 2% of all Conway's freight goes into the new York borrowz . how accurate is that?

That is the extent of the questions I have right now so thank you very much for your time.

I dont know how conway itselfs handles their frieght load.. I am with Werner and we pull a lot of ConWay freight. . And the conway loads are always "Just in Time" loads.. meaning, you need to get there as soon as you safely can.. it is good frieight for those who like to run and get as many miles as they can..

I like conway frieght cause there is always plenty of it... so you can get plenty of miles and earn a good check..

However, I am a no non-Sense driver.. I dont shop or eat sit down meals when my 14 hour clock is ticking... I dont stop for fuel.. I fuel at the end of my driving day when I am shutting down for the night..

Con-way truckload dispatches based on 45mph average speed & legal hours of service. The trucks go ~65mph so you'll usually have plenty of time.

Call in & they will notify the customer & adjust your eta.

45mph dispatch means they expect you to be able to drive 495 miles/day. Under ideal conditions you can do 700. I'm sure there will be the occasional load where stuff happened and you're now pressed for time, but those are the exceptions.

Doable for weeks that you are on the road and not broken down. With breakdown & hometime, you should plan on 120,000/year & everything in excess is just a bonus...

I never did, but if you live in the northeast you'd be more likely to go to NYC. It shouldn't be a common occurrence though.

As a conway truckload solo you won't pull much for con-way freight -- a shame because freight loads were so quick & easy...

Con-way loads are set at 47 MPH dispatch. Con-way Freight loads are set at 51 MPH Dispatch. Most weeks are good miles. Typically have plenty of time to make delivery. Forced dispatch yes. I been to NYC once in 2.5 years. We run Freightliner, Peterbilt, International, Kenworth, however, they are getting rid of International and Petes. The new K&W 680's are automatic so if your a new driver I see this as a disadvantage because you won't have experience shifting.

Their policy is if you don't feel safe driving for whatever reason, pull over call dispatch and let them know when ur rolling again.

I went thru NYC 500000000000000 times. Actually took an exit maybe 20 times.
Mostly around the Queens and Chelsea area.
Seen more us1 truck than I would prefer to see.

I was in jersey city in the hurricane sandy aftermath after driving literally thru hurricane Isaac.

Times are always manageable. I was always on the late board because I would go to sleep after I picked up and run nights.
Had more running hours that way.
Only fools run days with other fools.
I like deer. They have more brains.

So I guess you are more likely to go into NYC if you run nights if you put two and two together. But I'm giving dispatch more credit than they deserve.....trrrrruuuuussssttttt me....
