Hey I noticed the covenant forums is empty, hopefully someone can answer questions, that would be awesome. So I'm looking at companies that have orientation close to where I live, and covenant happens to have one in pomona, ca. Now I've read the forums and I've seen not so good things about them. Has covenant improved at all or are they still a terrible company to work for? I'm not looking for the best company but for some experience. Has anyone gone through the training at covenant?
There was this one time I was at the greyhound station waiting for my bus in los angeles and I talked to a trainer from covenant. He seemed like a pretty happy guy and said its a decent company. He was a young trainer who was 28 years old which is maybe why he had a good attitude. But that made me curious if maybe I should try covenant out. All these different companies makes it hard for me to decide which one to chose lol.

Probably not, but thanks to Covenant, I'll never be able to forget that it's a child, not a choice.

Thank god for that little tag, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to know, otherwise.

Why do you want orientation close to where you live?
Navajo would probably be much better than Covenant & they have a terminal in Chino.

Navajo express? Aren't they about the same as covenant? Im not sure yet I'm looking at all my options at the moment. I was planning on trying some local companies and if that doesn't work I have no choice but to go otr.

Ok, some full disclosure: I was recently fired from Covenant so I probably have an ax to grind. That being said, have you actually been inside the Pomona terminal? It has ONE shower. And TWO washing machines.

I was there one night when three LA police officers arrested a driver in the parking lot. There were three patrol cars and a helicopter flying overhead with a spotlight, just like you see in the movies.

The very last time I was in Pomona, I was told that two days earlier, some people had hopped the fence and tried to steal a truck and trailer. I wasn't there, so it's hearsay. But after witnessing the LA police invade the yard, I think it's likely the other incident happened.

Yes. IMHO, most of the Covenant trainers are in it simply for the money. My first trainer started me out driving at night and continued that pattern for several weeks. I did 88% of the night driving. He finally kicked me off his truck, when he had a huge temper tantrum and I didn't react.

At that point, the student manager decided that I was "hard to train." The next trainer chewed tobacco and spit into a bottle, which he kept on the front dash - disgusting. But since I was "hard to train", I lived with it. He did practically all the backing but made me initial a sheet that said he had given me multiple backs. He also told me that after training, he never wanted to see me again in his entire life.

Fact: the experienced drivers at Covenant do not want student trainees as partners because they KNOW how bad the training is at Covenant. Check that fact out for yourself.

Covenant does FORCED TEAMING so if you don't have someone you already know, it becomes a nightmare after you finish phase 1 and upgrade to the teaming phase. Nobody but students are available.

The person in charge of teaming is a joke. I'm a non-smoker who asked to be paired with a non-smoker with no pets on the truck. I got teamed with a smoker who had a dog. Woke up one day to discover dog crap all over my boots. It goes on and on.

There are some authentic Christians at Covenant, a great guy named Greg who works up on the hill in Chattanooga comes to mind. But the executives are NOT authentic Christians. CHRISTIANITY IS USED BY THEM AS A MARKETING PLOY.

I was fired for pointing out that their actions were not in harmony with their words. In fact, they couldn't even give me a reason why, when they fired me. Would Jesus avoid telling you the truth? I think not.

There are a few good Covenant trainers of all ages. I've met them and talked to them in truck stops on the road. But I never had the opportunity of having one. Look out for the ones that have the "Master Trainer" badge on their truck. The true master trainers at Covenant don't brag, they just do it.

If I had it to do all over again, I would never have started at Covenant. Here's your problem, you're new to trucking so you really don't know what questions you need to be asking before you join a company.

For God's sake, since you had the presence of mind to join this website BEFORE you joined a company. (which I did not) Have the humility to ask the experienced drivers for a list of what questions they would ask before they joined a company.

Remember: Covenant does FORCED TEAMING and other companies do not. Covenant is overrun with smokers. If you are a non-smoker you will have difficulties finding a non-smoking trainer, and later, a non-smoking team partner.

Finally, I was naive and took Covenant at their word . . . and got fired for it. IT'S NOT REALLY A CHRISTIAN COMPANY. There is a sprinkling of authentic Christians in the company. But the execs are laughing all the way to the bank.

Covenant says on their website that they will "help" you get your hazmat within 60 days of hire. Actually, they continued to send me on routes that PREVENTED me from getting my hazmat. BTW: Now that I'm fired, I just received my X endorsement YESTERDAY.

If you don't have your hazmat, Covenant pays you considerably less and requires DOUBLE the amount of time in phase 2.

Covenant says on their website that they will find a suitable partner for you. FACT: Covenant gives the non-smokers lists of 80-90% smokers in an effort to break you down and MAKE you take a smoker as your partner.

Jesus would never lie to you or deliberately jeopardize your health - Covenant DOES. Next time you see that child box on the back of the trailer REMEMBER - that's only someone's brainchild marketing slogan to convince you that Covenant cares - THEY DON'T!
