When you are staying in the England "dorms" at slc make sure you keep all your personal belongings locked up. My current student had $200 stolen from him while he was sleeping and he said the guy next to him had about a $100 stolen from him. Laptops and etc go missing all the time. Do not trust your roomates, there will be 8 to a room.

Also be there ready to start a new career don't act like your on vacation. You will know what I mean when you get to the slc terminal and take a look around. A lot of these people are not professionals and you would think they are at summer camp.

This is serious and you will be behind the wheel of a potentially deadly equipment. Every year a couple of trainers are killed by their student. As well as vice versus.

This is my first trucking job so I guess it is not the refresher course. They mentioned it would be Phases I, II, and III. It is the last day(30th) of it being free so I jumped on it.
I will take driving very seriously. I am prepared to be an "all ears and eyes" guy and expecting the worse. 8 to a room? I am not looking forward to that. I must admit I am a little bit of a clean freak and I would guess after reading a lot of posts that will change. I want to be professional and a safe driver.
Anything about the eye test I should know? Anything on the physical? I am ready to go but I don't know about being 20/20 on the eyes. Thanks for the "room" tip also. I am bringing very little with me until I am in my own truck.
    Thanks again,
    gary

The eye test is just standard and so is the physical. You have to be able to get in/out of the trailer and crawl underneath. I also think they have you push something inside the trailer and check your heart heart afterwards to make sure your blood pressure is not too high.

    Roadfreedom Thanks this.

The biggest complaint I hear from other phase 1 trainers is a students "know-it-all" attitude. If a student doesn't listen then they are deemed not trainable and will be removed from the truck.

My current student is good but he thinks he can float and this is really frustrating. I have to always watch him to make sure he double clutches and does not over rev.

    Roadfreedom and gt4jk Thank this.

Thanks for all the help and info. I assume you meant that the eye test is just the standard, 10 or so feet away, read a normal eye chart like "read line 6, then line 7, etc. Just the normal eye doctor exam. On their site they have a weird eye chart with just "O T H & V's" on it.
    I can handle that.
