i've been truckin for 13 yrs (i know..still a rookie). i swore i'd never sign one of thos rip-off lease purchase deals. but i found one in Kansas City by accident that actually works! instead of havin to come up with the big payment every week, their payments are based on the miles you run. AND you don't make a payment when you take home time! and if you have a breakdown, you only pay $100-$150!!! cause you"re payin as you go per mile. so i get mile pay, fuel surcharge, stop and detention pay subtract .313 per mile which covers truck payment, ins, maint, and everything. subtract my fuel. and everything left over is mine. been with them for 1 and a half yrs and my trucks half paid for. got almost entire new front end and only paid $100 for it. call me Happy Grandma at RTI!!

I heard of them .... Almost did it bout 2-3 yrs ago till I heard a horror story then I chickened out ... But I'm sure they have their success stories also

Several years ago in Charlotte, NC, Johnson Motor Lines had a similar lease purchase deal. And here is how it worked:
1-$2000 would put you into a brand new International. This $2000 was not a "down payment", but the $2000 started your maintenance fund.
2-5 cents per mile came out of your settlement and went into the maintenance fund until it reached $4500, once it reached that amount, the 5 cents per mile did not come out.
3-Payments were 10 cents per mile, the more you ran, the quicker you got the truck paid off. If you did not run, you had no payments. I knew a driver that broke his leg and was out for 6 months, the truck sit in his drive-way the 6 months and when he came back to work, his payments started back.
4-Repairs or maintenance costs were taken out of the maintenance fund. If you were in Charlotte you could get work done at Johnson's shop for "fleet price". If work was done out on the road, all you had to do was to call and get a p.o. # and the bill was paid.
5-And another big plus was that the o/os fell under the Teamsters benefit program, because Johnson had about 500 company drivers who were Teamsters and the drivers who were leased to Johnson fell under the Teamsters.
This was the very best deal,but as always, good things always come to an end. In August 1980 Johnson closed the doors. -

with diesel at about $3.10 a gallon you only need to get 10.3 mpg to keep your fuel expense down to $750/week.
