Well both answers are correct. It depends on whether you come with your class A. If you do yes, if you going to Roehl school to obtain your class A you pay for transportation and hotel. I received my class a training at a school in ga called cdl of ga.

    Newtrucker,

So, overall. How long did your training take. I am sure it varies per driver, depending on their skill level and if/when the trainer sees fit to let you loose. But I was just curious on how long the average length was.

    Gumball,

Good luck at training. Let us know your progress and safe driving! See you down the road!

The average is 8-14 days. No less than 8 no more than 14. The week of orientation you will be driving with 2 other student and a trainer. After that you get a trainer that you go over the road with for 8-14 days. After that they drop y I u off at the terminal and you test out.
The test is pretty basic. It was a lot easier than my dot test to get my license. The written test is open book. So dont worry about it. I got an 88 and I didnt use the book and they told me I scored higher than most. In my opinion the training program is awesome. Of course im comparing it to Prime because it was complete hell there.

Thanks for the information. Ha Ha, yeah, I have read a lot on these forums good and bad about almost every company. But, pretty much all good with Roehl.
So, you on your own now? How's it so far?

    Thanks again!

Yes, so far its been good. My only complaint is getting routing to get my truck fixed. If its still running they see it as its ok and can wait. Miles are great and so are the people here.

Yes, very useful information for me too. I was accepted at Prime and after my research seems that their training turns into team driving, they promote a lot of team driving, and they also push the lease. I'm guessing you could probably tell me something about that.

From my research of Roehl, I did not see any or many comments about team driving or the lease.

I was looking for proper training i don't want to go out there unprepared or improperly prepared.

I am 44yrs old and have a few years of life experience and it seems like some of the leases that some of the larger carriers are pushing are very dangerous and I really don't want to have one of those thrown out at me, certainly when I'm just starting out in the field. Seems like Prime trys to get all their drivers to lease.

So far, all of my dealings with Roehl have been fair and straight forward. I am more than impressed at this point and am looking forward to starting school next week.

If a person has a CDL-A with no experienced, does Roel accept inexperienced drivers without having to go through their CDL school? If so, how long is their orientation/training before you are solo? What is their policy on taking the tractor home. I live in central Kansas and Roehl is still on my list of those to go with. Thanks much and stay safe!

Yes, I can tell you about my experience with them. Their training doesn't include training. For me it was team driving from the moment I got in the truck. I had only had roughly 50 miles, if that under my belt from driving school. I got thrown in the front seat and was told to go straight. 20 mins later my first trainer went to bed. I had a total of 3 trainers while there for 2 months. All were lease. All wanted me to go lease so they would get a bonus. 2 of 3 started training because they were not making even on their lease. So they weren't interesting in teaching just making the money that teams make. At prime if your trainer is on a lease they pay your 600 guarantee (which it never was before taxes). Twice out of 2 months I didnt receive a check at all. Supposedly I didnt drive at all. Even though my elogs show differently. But because the trainer said I didnt drive, I didn't get paid. My first trainer was a cool guy but he couldn't stay away from the bottle. Second bad news. Got mad when I asked questions. Third got mad because I stopped the truck because I couldn't see thru the fog. We were on time to be more than 12 hours early for that appt. Greed! They all train for money. I didn't learn anything there but what not to do if I become a trainer and not to lease from Prime. 1,000 dollars a week for a truck thats not your at the end of the lease. Bad news. It has a ballon payment or they give you 20-25,000 for completing the lease. Lets do the math. 1000 times 52 weeks is 52, 000 a year for 3 or 4 years 208,000 for a truck that's worth 150, 000 at the most. Plus heres the kicker its still not yours. Lol. The training is absolutely too long for 2 grown adults that dont know each other to spend in a truck together. 60,000 miles (team miles) so roughly 1,000 miles a day between two people. Not including if your trainer goes home or has a breakdown. They say they will let you go sooner if they think you are ready, they wont. Thats money they lose but cutting you loose because they are solo until another student comes along. Most of Primes drivers are lease, most are trainers or teams. If you arent teams or a trainer you wont make money or be comfortable. The cute trucks are tiny. If you want a big boy truck, guess what?? You have to lease. Thats their solution to everything. Want more home time? Sign a lease. Lol. Good luck if you venture that way. The Prime Way. It was a waste of my time. I should have come to roehl in the beginning.
