The last time they ordered Prostars with cummins, they were spec'd with 435 or 450ST motors.

That was a 13 liter, these are 15s. And have the SCR. So will have more power anyway. The 2010 Cummins is a better engine. Having to put the fluid in is kind of a pain, but worth it due to having a more efficient engine than we have had since 2003 when EGR started.

Ive driven the new Cummins 15L Prostars. They run pretty #### good. Now these were wide open trucks so who knows what will happen once the pennypinching carriers get their computers hooked up to them....

Heartland buys new tractors and trades before the warranty is up on the old ones. Also, the fuel efficiency seems to change over time on the same truck, same engine.

I am understanding that with the Opti Idle you can set a temperature in the bunk and the truck will turn itself on and off to maintain that temperature. Truck won't idle nonstop, but will idle long enough to bring temperature up or down to setting. Heartland is buying 900 brand new trucks this year and some of them have opti-idle. Their oldest truck will be a 2012. Can someone who has had opti idle explain it and tell us about the pros and cons?

Cons? It takes awhile to get used to the truck starting itself and high rpm revs it produces. It wakes you up for quite awhile untill you get used to it, otherwise it's a pretty good system.

Not real good if you are a CPAP patient. Constant restarting of the engine can potentially cause damage to your unit. I myself wouldn't have an OI truck. That, plus they're danged annoying.

I never got a good nights sleep in a Crete Opti Idle equiped truck. Constant stopping and starting. I finally just turned it off and left it off.

48, I think if one plugged the inverter into a regular 'surge protector' there could be no problem w/voltage spikes that would hurt the CPAP machine. I don't know tho, maybe it would kick off the CPAP every time it started. Is that what you think/know will happen? If so,,,it wouldn't be good, for sure. I'd hate to have to press the Start on the cpap every time it kicked off if that was the case!
OptiIdle is sort of annoying, for sure. I didn't like it too much when I was a Cretian. The first days you wake up thinking someone has broken in and stealin' the truck, with you IN IT!:biggrin_25523:
