I am interested to know what people have to say about working for Keim. I have read some other posts, but they are rather old and outdated.

Is there anyone working for Keim NOW that can give me the scoop about the company?

I live in Kansas, about an hour or so south of Sabetha. What is the home time really like?

    How is the training?
    How are the benefits?
    How is the money?
    etc, etc, etc.

I have no flatbed experience, but am highly motivated to learn. Will I be taught enough during training?

What lanes do they run most often?

Thanks for any help and info

Yea, I am with Keim. Personally I've been very happy with this outfit. We tend to have a lot of drivers pass though due to having some come straight out of CDL classes. And when the first snow flies, will a few people don't like flat bed work in the cold. I did 8 months with a small company so I came in knowing more than a little, and had done some of the same routes also. Like most comparable outfits there will be a lot of tarp work, like sheetrock, steel, lumber, even shingles sometimes.

Living in the Topeka area is a plus in MHO. I am out of Wichita, so I get to Medicine Lodge for sheetrock on a regular schedule. Fort Dodge Ia. is also a regular stop if your in Iowa. But the drivers in Topeka seem to get decent hometime, one I see often likes to run more and is out a lot, but that seems to be his choice. I've done good as of late for hometime, but a few years back, when times were tougher, the money was better out east so I stayed out there quite a bit. Again, it was a choice for me.

Training will be up to 6 weeks with a driver, during which time you will see most of the loads you will encounter on the road. And most of the trainers are fairly well seasoned guys, and they do try to stay in touch afterwards. Also the company tries to keep the new guys on a short leash for a while, mostly in Ks., Ia., Mn. area. A few guys get annoyed with this, and I don't blame them, it bothered me too. Securement training is a hands on thing in my opinion, and it's best to get out and watch what others are doing in front of you. Most drivers don't mind questions, and will be happy to pass on few pointers when asked. Just like this forum, if you ask it will be answered, and there will be different answers that may all be right!

As for benefits, the only one I care about is Money! For me, I am happy with my Pay. I don't know what a new guy makes, but it's comparable with the other outfits like TMC, Boyd, Maverick, and Pauls. We tend to go to all the same customers, and run the same product, and from talking to most we run the same dead miles too. As I said earlier, since your close to the home yard i'd bet your hometime will be agreeable with you once you get settled in. And for our lanes, we get all over the mid-section out of Ks. and Ia. with sheetrock, and long runs to Cali, and back east also. A lot of Texas with bag loads, and also to the east coast with bags. Deere loads from Ia. can go anywhere, along with some other equipment out of Ks. too. Steel loads from Norfolk Ne., Jewett Tx., Tulsa Ok., St. Joseph Mo., Jackson Tn., and a lot more. And there are a lot of shingles to move from everywhere, that's a long list.

But, the other outfits do the same things, so I'll not say we have the monopoly on any one thing. I'll just say I am good with this outfit! And you may be able to talk to a driver who lives in your area, there are a few, Bob, may hook you up. For myself, hometime is the most important thing! Some times it won't happen, but when I'm not home, I'm usually making dxxx good money.

Good luck where ever you land Kid!

    Dirtyrabbit out.

I might be givin y'all a heads up on it soon.

talked to Bob over the last few days. I've got the job as long as I pass drivin, drug, and physical tests. That and move back from Tennessee. My hometown's only bout an hour from HQ and we have Georgia Pacific so I figure I can probably get some decent home time.

if I do start within the next month or so I'll let ya all know. Keep it safe out there Rabbit. Look forward to meetin ya and Kid too if he takes it on.

Good Luck EMAW, you should fit in nicely at the office, it's shaded a bit on the Purple-ish side. And B.R. is a favorite of mine, always tends to pay good there.

Keep after it Kid, just wear out that name Bob. I hate the waiting game, I'm not good at it myself.

All super singles on trucks and trailers. Speed set at 68 as far as I know. Seems to be a lot more T-800's coming in as of late. Don't think there are gonna be any more Lone Stars coming in though. All Cummins, no more MX Paccar motors.

    logisticlymissplaced Thanks this.
