I know you have to sign this bulls hit contract if you go to Schnieder school to get your CDL, but do you have to sign a contract if you went to a private school and already have the CDL and just need on the road training? If so what kind of contract is it?

No, if you already have your CDL you do not have to sign the 18 month contract.

In fact, if you classify as an ADTC or EXP1 student, you will start with your training pay the first week. This is what happend to me. I already had my CDL but limited experiance. I took the 14 days course and then 2 weeks with a TE. Just finished my SQT and start on a dedicated account Monday.

As for everything that truckin916 said for training is acurate. I attended in Carlise, PA.

I was wondering how many days off you got while at SNI if you already have CDL
    Thanks

The starting pay for inexperienced drivers depends on region. It's between .29 cents per mile and .34. My concern is a poster was told he would get .30 to start and only got .25. Do you know that they're paying you correctly?

And for the quarterly bonus, do you have to meet ALL of the criteria for the entire quarter or get nothing? At Transport America you get monthly bonuses for three different things, and if you miss one you don't lose the entire bonus, just a third of it, for one month. Is Schneider's all or nothing?

I do like the $200 a month tuition reimbursement/no contract deal though.

You get paid short miles to right?

My recruiter told me that they'd test me when I got there and either get a 4 or 14 day orientation in WI depending on how I did. Does anyone know what they test (other than the road test) so that I might study for it?

I have heard the Schnieder was good....but don't have personal experience with them.

What do you mean? You cant work for Schneider as a driver if you don't have a CDL unless you go through their training. IF you have a CDL and get hired on...you go through a four day thing just so they can test you and see what you know. Not sure what you mean as far as days off.

Im assuming that they show your pay per mile onthe paycheck. Im salaried so mine is the same each week.

I think...THINK this is how it goes...could be wrong as I only qualify for their safety bonus. Im not sure what other bonuses they offer. I think with some, it all or nothing; and with others, you get what you earned. ie...they can deduct here and there and such.

This is if you have a CDL. If you go through the 4 day thing, I think they will test you and such to see if youknow how to drive and do a pretrip and all that good stuff. Not sure what else they ahve you do. If you don't do that, you will go through the regular 14 day program with the other noobs.
    Our drive test consisted of:
    Pre-trip
    road test
    post trip
(cant remember if we did the four point thing or not)
    Backing

We also did an in class test which was basically 50 questions of what we took before in previous quizzes. Not sure if the 4day people do that.

Hmmm, we did a thing on trip planning as well, that was a big thing.
Make sure you know how to use the qualcomm. They came in and asked the CDL holders something along the line of "do you feel you could go out today with a load, run the truck operate the qualcomm ..etc." they knew everything, except how to use the qualcomm so they had to go through the two week program.

Beware of the pay with Schneider. When I was hired I was told I'd get .29 cents per mile with a minimum of $500/wk guaranteed for the first 26 weeks. I was also told that the Per Diem program was optional. I received this all in writing.

What really happened was that I was handed a form during training that was an 'opt out' for the Per diem. They automatically enroll you in it. I was told I couldn't opt out until after my road training, which I did. Yet every single paycheck is at the per diem rate which is lower! When I asked why it was still like that I was told "it probably stops at the end of the quarter"....what a crock!

I was also told that the $500 minimum "went away". When I asked how something guaranteed to me in writing could just "go away"? I was told by my DBL that it just "went away"....no real explanation. This was confirmed on almost every paycheck which was under $500.

My first solo paycheck with Schneider was for $291...pretty pathetic considering I had 2200+ miles worth of loads on it.

Overall the Schneider payroll is a scam. Think about it...16,000 employees....if you jack 10,000 of them think about how much they get out of the deal. I was very unhappy with how Schneider dealt with their written guarantee and quit! Sorry....can't be away from the family three weeks at a time for peanuts, too many other companies out there that will actually pay me what they promise to pay me.

With that said, I will continue to say that they DO have a great training program if you can hack it, but really, unless you are going to run on a dedicated account, I'd look elsewhere if you want piece of mind that you'll actually get a paycheck that isn't all messed up every week.

How long ago was this? From the rate you quoted it seems like it wasn't too long ago but you failed to mention any dates.

"Out of 24 students that started in our class we graduated with 10. Some people just quit because it wasn't for them, some were escorted out when something came up in their background."

This doesn't sound like a very good graduation rate. I'm not sure I want to drive 350 miles uncompensated and waste my time unpaid just for them to tell me some technicality came up that they should have found before I started. You know anything about the people that were "escorted" out, and why they waited until orientation started to do background checks? Is it their policy to not process your info until after you start orientation? I did the phone interview and got a conditional hire 12/13, and don't start orientation until Jan 5th. That seems like enough time to figure out if they really want me or not. Are you still with them?
