With Swift? What Swift school is that?

I have worked with a recruiter from every Training company there is, and all but Swift have been terrible!

Now with swift I had a start date for June 1st, that got canceled because of a "paperwork snafu" on the recruiters end....... I have now been rescheduled for June 29th in Lewiston ID. The typical wait time to get in a class here is about 4 weeks!

I am happy to wait for this school date with swift because the other companies can't seem to do anything right! I feel a lot more comfortable with Swift, and I can get my CDL from my home state of WA instead of UT.

I am loving this forum so far, there seem to be a lot of recent newbs that are willing to offer informative advice as opposed to the typical Swift Bashing that I have been getting elsewhere

Good luck! I'm a Swiftie too.

Mentors

So I will be attending school in Lewiston ID, and orientation in Sumner WA. My question is, are there any Swift mentors on this forum are do you know of any that you can recommend? I want to run 48 states when I go solo, but really have no preference as to flat bed, dry van, or refer. Is there one that would be better?

I think it's a new policy at all their schools, but know for sure at Millington. I was told after school I would come back to Indiana for CDL test. Apparently a reaction to the "third party tester" problem they encountered with TN. They have a permit instructional video with practice tests on-line. In Indiana, I have to get my DOT Physical just for the permit. Some other states require that also, but not many.

I can confirm that this is also the case for the Lewiston ID school. The online video is a neat tool, they are using the program from OnlineCDLTraining.com.

I was instructed by my recruiter, now they are all in Phoenix office, to complete the online class and acquire my CDLIP prior to attending school. In WA I only had to pass the knowledge test and pay the $40 fee to get my permit.

The recruiter explained that after school in lewiston ID, I will attend a 4 day orientation in Sumner WA. This is when I will go to the local DMV and take the tests for endorsements, and complete the skills test to recieve my WA State CDL.

I think this is a good way to do it. With other training companies I would have gotten a CDL from a different state, like Utah, and then I would have to transfer it over to my home state of WA.

I am with Swift, I am running a Flatbed though. Running like crazy. This is the first time i haven't recieved a pre plan early. I am currently in Houston sitting at a truck stop waiting. I went to the school in Millington TN. I had a blast. I was on nights there. I run all 48 currently. Getting 3,000-3,2000 miles a week. Like i said i've been running, so this detention is pretty nice right now. I live in NC and had to get my permit prior to coming to school also, did my 3 weeks there since there is no road training close to my home. After my 3rd week i went to Richmond, VA to do my refresh and then drive down to Rocky Mount NC for my CDL DMV test.

Orientation is a 3.5 day class, which is you went to a SWIFT academey its really boring. The 3rd day you pretty much just sit around and wait for your dirver number. If you choose to do flatbed you will have an extra 2 days that week for Phase 1 flatbed training, which you will be paid 50 bucks a day for. If you pass the test and everything and once you complete your 6 weeks with your mentor you will go to either Gary, IN or Phoenix, AZ for Phase 2 flatbed training. Which is where you will be tested on your tarping and chaining. Flatbed is fun, and alot of work, especially down here in TX in the 100 degree sun. I have pulled some dry van loads also when i can't get a flatbed load. If anyone has any questions or anything especially about SWIFT flatbeds just ask. I am a recent grad of the swift school and just got off my mentor truck a couple of weeks ago.

jim kling is one of the best mentors swift has. he does the 48 and will pick a student up from anywhere...i think. that's what he told me when i was on his truck almost 3 years ago.

fyi: lancaster and el paso, decatur seem to be the worst terminals when it comes to sitting.

Thanks for that PI. Can you believe that someone else already gave me that name? I guess he must be a damn good mentor. I am guessing that if he is that good, he will be booked up when I get there. I sure will request him, and hope he is available.
