Hopefully someone can help me. I am a little overweight but do not have high blood pressure. The thing is, when I take a physical my bp spikes. Probably nerves, but when I go to the family doctor it is usually normal. I don't know how strict companies are I heard your bp is supposed to be under 140/90. I am taking a physical monday for Arrow, my first trucking job, and am nervous as hell. Is there second chances? What if it is higher than 140/90? Is there something I can do to calm it down, maybe something over the counter? Food? Drink? Please help, maybe someone who has been through this. Thanks

Definately no caffeine prior to the test. Try to think of relaxing thoughts.

I'm a skinny dude and on my last physical I had high BP. They didn't want to give me the ok but I talked them into it. Not sure of anything other than blood pressure pills that would calm it down... but I wouldn't take em if i didn't have a doc tell me too and have a perscription. Someone else may know a trick. Maybe a couple asprin?

Take a Percocet. You are already nervous. That doesn't help you any.

That is a prescription drug and he would have to identify it on the form.
He is better off avoiding all caffeine and trying to nap while waiting for his turn. The more you keep your mind away from the white coats, the better it gets. I can actually look at the white coat and see my BP rise. -
I would not advise this. He would pass the bp but fail the drug test for amphetamines.
You didn't mention if you smoked cigs or not. That morning, don't drink coffee or smoke any cigs before they take your bp. Stay relaxed and you will be alright. Those two are the biggest hitters for bp.

Yeah I was almost hit head on, then smoked 2 cigarettes all on the way to the physical... thats why my bp was sky high

thanks for the replies so far. I may try the asprin thing. was thinking maybe a tylenol pm. I dont smoke but use chewing tobacco which I will not be doing the morning of. And I dont really drink many caffinated drinks so that wont be an issue. keep the advice coming and thanks

I forget about cigarettes since I don't smoke. I have seen BP on smokers who were excited actually increase after they smoked a cigarette to calm them down. -
The pm may have you nodding off in the waiting room lol
