Don't have it on when you do something stupid..
shantyshaker12 Thanks this. -
I have been wanting one of the setups that records front/rs/ls/rear of the rig. It would be handy to be able to make sure things have stayed where they were put to. Also, get some videos for Youtube and maybe get them to go viral. LOL

I'm looking for one to cover my butt awhile back i remember reading of a town in TX they where running what sounded like a hit and run scam with local police involved they could seize your truck and sell it Ive had a lot more people doing intentional horse crap around my truck lately and with CSA2010 about to kick in it would be a good investment

I have a very simple forward-facing one that records about 30 minutes in a loop, 24 hours a day. If something happens, or I get cut off etc etc, i just pop out the SD card and dl to my laptop.
It was about $80 and I got in from a Chinese company...I have ordered several things from them and no problem so far. They take paypal so I'm protected anyway. There are a wholesaler, but will sell one-offs as well, albeit the price goes down with bulk.
I also have an 'aviatior's style watch from there ($59) that records video and sound from up to 10 feet away. When I have an encounter with, say, someone at my window, my watch arm rests on the door. WARNING, I live in a place where it is legal to record video AND sound without BOTH parties knowing...you may not!
Chinavasion.com...coolest gadgets EVER (no, I don't work for them, lol)
dash cams: (all under 60 bucks, plus about 10-15 for shipping/duty)

My model, which is an older one, that I used in the videos:
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_...recorder-with-infra-red-incar-mounting-stand/
I see the price is down to $50...
The video quality is so-so...enough to prove someone cut you off, but not quite good enough to record license though.
I have a couple videos up here, just so you can get an idea...there not very impressive, lol...but, hey $80!
Those systems you see for 2 grand are WAYYY too expensive IMO...what is it? 1991?
The technology means that you could have 3 cameras and a master recorder for well under $300...
Rearward-facing is, of course, the most impractical for vans.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYE3D0JVegUKimono_skunk and Bubba O'Reilly Thank this. -
Sweet, those would do quite nicely. What size SD card do you use? What about a larger one for more record time? I assume you have the sound muted?
-
yes, you don't want the sound IMO...it just records me singing along to the radio/arguing with wife etc etc.
However, OTHER drivers like the sound...like this guy where he got his air horn on record, proving that he was 100% not at fault for the cut-off wreck.
Watch THIS guy's vid, and you will be ordering your dash cam today!

PS I use a 4 Gb for about 20-30 minutes. It records (purposely) in 2 minute segments so that you don't have to edit through half an hour of video to find a 20 second incident.
The newer cams at Chinavasion seem to be using 32 G cards with would last all day!
I don't see the point of that though. other than when you're in the TS, and someone hits you from the front I guess.
For "truck videos" I have a Canon cam-corder sat on a bean-bag pillow on my dash, lol. That's what filmed my "lost in rural Ohio"...also on youtube.
I'm just getting into it, and learning what works...(bean bags!)irnndn, Bubba O'Reilly, " OPTIMUS PRIME " and 3 others Thank this. -
I hear a tale on the vhf radio about a guy that was running his fog/driving lights on and blinding everyone. He either didn't speak english, didn't have a radio, or ignored all the comments coming at him. So the Gentleman I overheard, waited for him at a brake check, took out his hammer and smashed his driving lights. A couple of weeks later his company asked him about it, he tried to deny it until they showed him on video doing the deed! This tale was told by the guy that did the smashing! He said it cost him a couple hundred dollars.

I am using a mini size dash camera for my A6 http://www.szswill.com/car-camera-hd/carcam-cvr020.html , it is a cheap one but works fine.
However, if you are going to install on your truck, maybe you can consider a dual-lens or even 4 camera kits to have a omnibearing recording, if so, then maybe you need a system like CCTV to record in HDD but not common dash camera which stores in a SD card.
