Is it supposed to be this difficult putting either Dish or Direct TV in your truck? Or are the people I've been talking to at those companies just a lil slow?
The logistics of it seem too overwhelming the way they put it. So I'll try to get it out of my fellow truckers that have it.
What company or product do I look for to get this done?
Thanks
Dug

that guy that installed our motion satelite did it for us. it was very easy .
-

-
Call us. Ask for me. Problem solved.
Donsimplyred1962 Thanks this. -
Yea it was really frustrating. I forget which one it was, but either Dish or Direct gave me 2 numbers that were close to me to make arraingments to have it installed. I called both numbers and they said they have never installed in a truck before. And on top of that, they said they would have to special order a dish that would cost me $1,000.
HE he HE
Who do I call Don?
P.S. I crawl back into a truck on the 20th, but with FOOTBALL season coming up, I WILL NOT MISS A STEELERS GAME!!! We are the world CHAMPS AGAIN!!!! -
$1,000?? They must be trying to sell you one of those big dome dishes that tracks the satellites as you are driving.
I imagine you are just wanting one of the set up, take down installations like most every other satellite driver customer has.
Good lucksimplyred1962 Thanks this. -
easily folded up. Also signal strength isn't compromised very much with the smaller dish. Dish cost 69.00 the bracket was homemade the bottom of the mount is a piece of 1/8 tubing (not sure how wide) which slides over a stainless steel rod and fastens with threaded bolt turned 90 degs and turns in to tighten it. the elevation is tightened the same way. PM me if you want the url to buy the dish online

The problem with speaking directly to Dish or Direct is that the person on the other end wouldn't know a big truck if it ran them over in most cases.
We tested the "dome" systems, the "dish" that you have to set out and crank up systems, and then finally found the VuQube systems to be the best solution.
Model V10 ($649) - you have to use the remote control in the sleeper to go "up/down" and "left/right" to dial in the signal when you stop. Once you get used to this process, it takes less than 5 minutes to be watching TV.
Model V20 ($1289) - Auto-scan finder. You push the button and it finds the signal in 10 - 30 seconds.
Model V30 ($1589) - Auto-scan finder plus "in-motion. Same as the V20 plus it stays on the signal when you are driving. Good for teams, but may not be worth the extra price if it is just you in the truck.
All 3 work with Dish Network, DirectTV, or Bell ExpressVu (Canada.) You have to have an account with whatever satellite provider you like. But I have the NFL package too which only comes from Direct TV so that's the way to go if you want all of the games.
Note: If you want HD, then only Dish Network will provide HD signals to the VuQubes.
Mounting: You can use a "drill" bracket ($40) or a "no-drill" bracket ($45) to mount it on the back of the rig. Installation is not very hard if you have any mechanical inclination, or we can do it if you get a load that takes you on I-5 in Oregon.
Here are a couple of pics of some recent installs at our shop.
Hope that helps clear things up!

Yea that's great. I'll get the dish for now and work on the dome later. I did see that on a website, and like it very much, but I'll have to get some paychecks comin in first.
Thanks for all the help. I have rebuilt my El Camino and Harley, but this dish stuff is just something I have never dealt with.
thanks again -
Don,
I also have an interest in this thread. I have a few questions.
You have a non drill mount, which I assume means that would be by adhesive. It seems to me that for company trucks, the company might be a bit reserved about an install that might blemish their paint job. Once removed from the truck, will the paint be blemished?
Also, how are the wires routed from the dish to the interior?
With the adhesive mount, are these prone to theft? It seems to me that this would be attractive to some thief who just watched you go into a truck stop for dinner and a shower.
Also, is there a portable mount available? That is, is there a way to mount the dish so that you only set it up when you are parked, and then take it down while you are rolling?
It will be a while before I am ready to make the purchase, but I have a strong interest in this product family. I like to watch TV.
Thanks in advance.
