You SCAN the document, and MOST (modern) printers/scanners/copiers include PDF creating capability in their "program". It is much easier to email a PDF than to FAX a document, and the receiver gets a much better document. (Plus, you have a copy of the document as well for your records.)Gears Thanks this. -
There are many states that still only use fax's -

Almost everyone these days can print out a pdf file. A lot of times, I'll ask the recipient if they will accept a pdf file if I email it to them. The only situation Ive come across where I couldn't do this was a Canadian border crossing.
There is a program out there called "cutePDF." Installing that will put a fake printer in your printers folder. So, I use a regular Kodak digital camera, snap a photo of it, (I have to turn the flash off so it doesn't glare) then load the photo up on my laptop, and print it, using the fake cutePDF printer. This generates a pdf file of the document. Then I email it. This takes care of 90% of the faxes I have to send out. For incoming, I like Flying J's service. For a buck, you can rent a fax number for 3 days. They have longer and even permanent subscriptions if you like. You can then just whip into any Flying J at your convenience and pick up your fax. -
