Hot shot auto transport or hot shot general freight which pays better????

I have a question for you guys and gals out there, I'm just bout to start my own hot shot business and I'm torn on which one I should do, hot shot auto transport or hot shot general freight, which pays better? I'm leaning towards a 5 car carrier or a step deck trailer being towed by a Chevy kodiak or gmc topkick, any comments would be appreciated, I'm going to have 2 trucks to start out with in my fleet, my friend would coming to work for me will be out on average 2 weeks at a time, me I plan on living on the road no plan in sight on going home,, any comments can be directed here on to my email anderson.vending@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance

I run hotshot trucks ,i like general freight .sometimes cars as a back haul .just make sure you have some moneys stowed away for emergency use.ive seen hotshotters go bankrupt with in a year.cause of poor planning .

Anyone else got any input to this? I'm looking to do hotshot also but with either a 3 car wedge or a 40ft lowboy style gooseneck. Although I don't wanna be out for 2 weeks straight..

Sorry, my level of experience is hotshotting oilfield equipment only. I can tell you which is best out of those 3 though. I get home almost every day.

There's like zero dead heading with cars, and with a 4 car you will always average $2.00-3.00 pm, with 1pick, 1 drop or 2 pick, 2 drop most of the time.

If you put a 5 car behind a Kodiak, you might be a little under powered.

truckon, witch loadboards do you use? not sure if a 4 car would be a good idea behind a 1ton, Although I can drive conservativley, and ive even seen some 1 tons hualing 5 cars.....YIKES!
My main thing though is being able to go home every weekend. And still make a decent profit of course.

Central mainly, I don't pull a 4 car with my truck, my wedge 46ft long and I stay under 26k.

I have no trouble averageing 1.80-2.00$ on ALL miles.

Fullforce, be very, , very careful about listening to what Gary over on the ltlforum has to say, his idea of moving freight is a joke, and he is responsible for alot of hotshots failing. Their are some members on here that can give you much better and more real advice.

wow, thats the first I have heard of this, everyone seems to think he does good? But he likes to stay on the west cost and thats exactly where I dont wanna be anyways. He also says he likes his people to be out 3 or 4 weeks at a time..... NO WAY I will EVER do a 36 hour reset unless its in the bed with my wife!

Im really just trying to figure this car hualing thing out, most of the duallys I see hualing are running 3 cars and ALWAYS LOADED! The flats I see are about 50/50 loaded/unloaded. So there has to be cars to move and $1.80 on all miles is not bad at all.

Are you able to get 3 fullsize cars on the 46' wedge?
The more I look into it cars seems like the way to go, and there is a ton of used trailers to chose from.
Thanks alot for the info Truckon
