I figured, maybe I just need to haul some super light freight or just pull trailers for trailer companies till I have saved enough to get in with the 1 tons

You will need DOT number and MC number Process Agents, insurance, business license, DOT medical card, and every time you sign a broker/ carrier agreement give them w9, I am sure I am forgetting something

Not as bad as I thought Lite bug, I will continue to do my research. I'll bgin by getting my MC AND DOT at one hour authority this evening, I will go to the local treasures office this week.
Who do I need to see about a DOT medical card, and where can I find a w9 forum?

IRS. Gov. I think a search box will come up where you can search for the W-9. You will have to find a DOT approved person to do physical since they changed the law. What is one hour authority? You can go online and get your own numbers for $300, the Process Agents cost $75 How about work? Do you have customers, or brokers, or do you plan on starting out using load board? As soon as you get insurance you will end to be ready to roll, as your insurance will be a major fixed cost that you will have to meet. Hoping this helps.

Nola I see a load posted on the load board I call about the details ( time to pick up and deliver ) if I am not set up with the broker they will send me a broker/carrier agreement after I fill it out they will send me a rate conformation which will have the rate they are paying to have the piece moved, times for pick up and delivery. I will also send them a W-9 and my insurance information.

I was reading somewhere that it could possibly be impossible for me to get insurance since I do not have any experience "on record." I have experience in moving freight, cars, and horses but not on record because I've always done it for friends and friends of friends of friends for just the cost of filling my tank to help them.

When I started doing this I leased on with someone who had their own numbers. It gave me a chance to see if I liked doing this type work. It also gave me time to learn, now i did't not make any money while I was leased on, but I enjoyed it. After I got my numbers I found someone to dispatch for me. Then I decided to do everything on my own. There was so much to learn and am thankful to everyone who helped me along the way.

It's easy to assume you'd make money with your current 3/4 ton truck over the next year but hotshot is no easy nor sure business to profit in. You don't just show up with a truck (any class) and make profits.... seems like another hair brained highways to riches posting.

Unless you have the worst driving record ever, you'll be able to find insurance somewhere. When I started I didn't have any comercial experience either but I still found pretty decent insurance. You should update your location to where you live, then if anybody knows of a place they can help you out.

Just like lite bug said there are cheaper places to get your mc and dot on the net but one hour authority was very quick and easy to get done. You can and maybe should start your own LLC before getting the mc and dot. A lot of people on here say you do and don't but it doesn't hurt to be covered.

And yes it does sound like a highway to riches post but that's how we all started. But if this is what you really want to do, you'll find a way. I'd rather see everyone succeed than get the wrong information or be scared away to a company.
