I saw the thread for payment methods dealing with businesses, but do any of you deal with indiviuals? I am finally getting beyond the sticker shock of insurance and want to keep all my options open for keeping runs going. If you are dealing with transporting a load for an individual rather than a business, how have you found it easier to deal with collecting payments? Credit card before delivery, cash upon delivery, etc.

Write up a simple contract laying out the terms, fax it to them, have them sign it and fax it back. If it's a large amount of money, or requiring a substantial dead head to load, or if the freight thats being moved isn't worth much ask for a deposit up front via credit card, paypal, or wire transfer. Balance to be paid in cash on delivery. And never unload the freight, or allow it to be uloaded until the money is in your hand. Once the freight hits the ground you lose all rights to it and it becomes a matter for the courts.

I am curious if anyone has used POS credit card apps on iPhone/iPad or similar for payment methods? Is it worth it? I know cash is king, but am curious of all the proven methods.

I've got a friend who does this stuff, got into it thanks to watching shipping wars. He got smart after a few days thinking that he would make big bucks and takes loads that are cash only but he also does the Paypal thing from his phone and writes off the fees.

Personally I feel that if the person cant afford to pay cash, then chances of them doing a chargeback on paypal or their credit card are pretty high.
