All you gotta do is be a responsible adult and not get behind the wheel of any vehicle for several hours after drinking.
I got lucky when I got stupid 5 years ago. I was out of state at a friend's wedding. My DD got into a fight with his wife and left without me. I'd driven to the reception only because I didn't want to leave my Explorer at the church where it would've cost someone a parking spot the next morning (Sunday). Like a fool, I tried to drive back to the hotel. I pulled onto the side of the road a half mile from it to relieve myself when a deputy pulled in behind me. I was arrested and charged with a DUI. I was released the next morning on my own recognence (sp?) via video teleconference with a judge. I hired a lawyer when I came back home. The lawyer got me a deferred judgement and a $1000 fine. Somehow, some way, this was never reported to my home state and my license was never suspended. Moreover, it never shows up on my MVR. It does show up on a background check, but it's never kept me from getting a job anywhere.
Since then, I won't drink if I know I can't have a 24 hour period to get the alcohol out of my system before I drive any vehicle anywhere.simplyred1962, bobobrazil, Baack and 2 others Thank this. -

I won't get behind the wheel of a truck after I've been drinking. I've also been in situations where I knew on my own that I had too much to drink and would refuse to drive.
Case in point: Several years ago my girlfriend (at that time) and I were out on a nice Sunday drive in my Vette. My cell phone rang and she answered it for me- it was some friends of ours who wanted us to meet them at a bar & grill for dinner and a few drinks. I figured "Ah, one or two won't hurt!".
We got wrapped up in having a good time with them and when it was time to go home I knew that I shouldn't drive and my girlfriend was trashed. There was no one in our group who was sober.
I called a roll-back wrecker to come pick up my Vette and we rode home with the driver. He thanked us for 'doing the right thing' as he told us he had just finished hauling a totaled car away after a DWI-linked fatality accident. The bill (including the tip) was just over $150 but still a small price to pay compared to taking a HUGE chance like our friends did.
Our friends tried to drive home even after I tried to convince them not to. They told me the next day that his car ran out of gas and when a Police Officer spotted the parked car with people stumbling around it he went over to investigate and could tell that they were both drunk. Luckily, they got away with their car being impounded and getting cited for public intoxication. They called me at around 3:00 AM asking for a ride- I told them "Call a cab! We're too trashed to drive".Working Class Patriot, Baack, simplyred1962 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I totally agree on that, you never drink unless you know that you will not be driving at all for 24 hrs.The rule might say 4 but it all depends on you body chemistry and the amount you consume.Me I make sure I have a hotel room within walking distance to the bar or the store I am buying from. It's not only dangerous and irresponsible but just down right crazy to think you can safely drive after drinking.

Me, I love to go to bars even at my age as watching the kids have fun is a blast! Besides, it's getting to far to the floor and I bruise easily now! I can have just as much fun sober as I can drunk without the headache the next day! I also impress the ladies with a coffee and Bailey's Irish Cream and turn them on to something they can drink every morning and enjoy! Another thing about not drinking my mouth doesn't over ride my arse as it does with so many people who drink and get it kicked all over the dance floor!
Remember these famous words, "hold my beer and watch this!" always a stong indicator someone is going to get hurt or go on an ambulance ride! Besides trying to get a CDL back after a DUI is a PINA and you surely aren't making much money while trying to get it reinstated!Working Class Patriot and rookietrucker Thank this.
