Yeah, we still run paper. Looseleaf to boot. Plus we have a lot of regular runs. For example we have daily loads for Siemens electronics from El Paso to Southaven, MS. Drop and hook and they allow us to park overnight at their facility so we don't have to go to any of the less than savory truckstops in the Memphis area.

I have to agree about the complainers who say they aren't getting miles, but then tell you they turned down a load b/c of (insert excuse here). Some drivers just don't get the fact sometimes you have to take a crap load in order to get out of a crappy freight area. The name of the game is to try and keep moving. If you have to sit on a load for 12-16 hours so be it, but you increase your chances of getting into a better freight lane as long as you're moving.

Dunno why, but most of the chip-on-the-shoulder attitudes I see come off of the veteran (50+) drivers. Not sure if it's just years of stressful situations built up or what, but that's who I usually see making a scene at a shipper or raising their voice at a TS cashier over something trivial...

Honch,

I have to agree with you to some extent, I usually see it all across the spectrum of experience levels. I think the reason some old hands are like that is b/c they refuse to adapt to the ever changing industry, and they want to bask and relive the "glory" days.

I've gotten to the point I don't even talk to other truckers since I'm still a student. I've gotten a lot of attitude so far, as if I'm some illegal immigrant that just took their job away.

That's actually closer the truth than some people realize. A lot of old hands forget where they came from sometimes. It's easier for them to criticize, ostracize, and demonize new hands than it is for them to have patience and offer up words of wisdom.

I don't mind new drivers if they have enough sense to know that a CDL doesn't make them a truck driver. The only thing that will make you a truck driver is time and experience .

I don't go up and start telling anyone how to anything or what they are doing wrong if they don't ask first.

Another thing is I am old and I don't have time for all the drama and bs that seems to be the normal any more
I love my job and I don't care if you are not happy driveing a truck !!! I am and I will continue to be .

If you are not happy get off your Lazy arse and get a job that does make you happy or shut the fluck up !!!

Did I mention that I don't care how your company treats you ?
They only treat you the way you let them treat you !
Even if today is your first day you DON'T have to let them treat you less than human.
But you have to give them reason to tret you like more than just another unemployed burger flipper!

Ok I am done rambling for now good luck and be better than average and you will be ok .

Those are the rocket scientists, that scare me...the ones with 5 years or less, that know all there is to know. 3 decades + behind me when I retired, and on my last scheduled trip, I was still LEARNING......

Pfffff...I rarely ever look at other drivers passing me - mostly due to the fact that I'm almost always going exactly the speed limit, and if someone is passing me, they are speeding, and they don't deserve a nod, that would just encourage them to keep on breaking the law. I don't accommodate law breakers, and I will not flash my lights for them, either. However, if I am going below the speed limit, like when it's 70mph or even 75 in south Texas, and I only go 65, and someone is passing me, I will accommodate on occasion, depending on the circumstance. If someone has challenged me to an elephant race, and people are waiting behind this guy to pass, more often than not I will slow down a little and let him come over.

And besides, nodding like that at people is way overused. It means almost nothing anymore. And I'd much rather keep my eyes on what's in front of me, or check my mirrors. You stick your hand up to say hi, and/or give them the nod, they do it back, and the next thing you know, they are merging back over 30 feet off my hood.:biggrin_25510:
