I tried to quit my current company to work for a place that offered benefits and retirement. I gave 2 weeks notice, and did the job as norm until I left for orientation.
My first day of orientation went fine, then the morning of day 2, they tell me my app is rejected because I have a major preventable DOT accident.
I asked for clarification, because i'm sure I would have remembered it.
turns out, my current company said I did over 15K in damages to the truck last year when I had to be pulled out of a ditch.
It was a 200 tow bill, and maybe 200 in labor to get the big deer killer bumper rebolted up. I even paid back the cost of the tow and labor! I ran a load that day!
So with this fax back from them, I am unhirable. However, my Dac is good, my MVR is clean. Just that this company inflated the cost of "repairs" since he owns the shop that does it, he can fabricate it to whatever number he wants.
I was forced to come back home, and keep working for this guy, even though I have a huge grudge against him now. All I wanted to do was get insurance for my family...
BTW, the whole ditch thing, was the first week I drove for him, he gave me a truck with a suicide knob on the wheel. I told him I never used them before and I didn't feel too comfortable with it on there. Response; "Then you aren't a real truck driver"
#### thing got caught up on my shirt when I was rounding a curve going home bobtail. wheel stayed turned, and by the time I regained control, the front end was in the dirt. Needless to say, I took the thing off myself.
So, any advice after this long rant? How can I ever leave him? (Anything over $10k in damage is considered a major accident I guess)
Blackballed by current company!

you work for 2 weeks before going to orientation. and the new company waited till then to tell you they don't want you.
guess you shoulda kept those receipts you paid for getting pulled out.
here in utah, it's perfectly legal to badmouth an employee. -
You're not unhirable. Get the applications out there to companies. Tell the new company your reason for leaving this company is because you want benefits for your family & the company you work for now uses suicide knobs on the steering wheel & won't remove them & you aren't comfortable because the suicide knob interfers with steering. You might get on with Falcon Transport; they do a lot of stuff in Michigan with van or flatbed. Personally, I wouldn't give the guy a 2 week notice.
Wickedfire77 and Jrdude5 Thank this. -
Ouch. Thats FUBAR for sure. Do you have any pics or backup to this
Wargames and Wickedfire77 Thank this. -
I have no problems with badmouthing. I admit to the events happening. It's just that with him inflating the cost of repairs, it becomes a "Major preventable accident" in which nobody will touch, even though my DAC is clean and Nothing on my MVR. I wonder if I can use old paystubs to prove working there, and warn the next company about the inflated bill. Basically my word against his. and since he's a company, they will side with him.

I gave all my pics to the "safety" person. (his sister) last year, when it happened.
