As most of you already know, there is a requirement that all CDL drivers have to have a copy of their physical on file with their home states by no later than January 31, 2014, or they risk losing their CDL until they comply with the law. In these busy times, it's easy to overlook this.
I have found a link to what needs to be done in each state in order to comply. In many states, you can self certify online. I did it here in Florida, and it was really easy. Before you do so, I recommend taking a picture of both sides of the medical card and saving them to your computer. In Florida, I had to attach copies of the photos to the self certification when I submitted it. It only took a few minutes, and shortly after I did so, I received an e mail from DOT saying it was accepted.
It is an adobe acrobat link, so you need to have adobe on your computer to view it. I guess every computer comes with adobe by now, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Although it's been discussed in other threads, it's great to have the info for every state in one place--great link! The download really shows the variations from state to state!

My company has all the forms ready for us to sign and they'll fax them to the Department of Public Safety offices in Austin.

I know you already know. More a heads up for others.blairandgretchen and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
From what our company said, this isn't a loss of CDL, but it will put you out of service until you are certified. That will likely come as a rude awakening for many a trucker that haven't taken care of this come February 1st. You can bet there will be an "Operation ________" to inspect truckers certification in February.

You're right, Roadmedic. I just read through that chart from the pdf of the OP. Each state handles it differently and it can result in loss of CDL, depending on your state. Sounds like going through the certification process will automatically reinstate it for most states if it is suspended, revoked, etc.

So my med card expires Febuary,do I need to bring a new card to the DMV even though I may not be working at that time? Can I wait till I have another job and company pays for physical?
