There's no way I'm going to start off every day by crawling on the pee and oil soaked ground to check brake stroke.

Check tires, lights, coupling, and fluids. Good to go.

I'm calling DOT on both of you.
How dare you put the safety of the motoring public at risk! Both of you deserve prison! :biggrin_25516:

EDIT- it's difficult to imply sarcasm through text, but I was just kidding.

I do mine at Home...(my parking lot that I Lease)......

I do a Complete Inspection (BETTER than a DOT inspection) usually once a month)

    But on the street..Its Lights,Tires,Cargo control(Straps,Chains,Tarps), Oil,Water

In Better detail..Here is What Im Looking For on 1 of my own 'Personal' inspections at home

Brake Shoes and drums-Looking for seal seepage,Also the Meat left on shoes

Every Airline I can visually See, (Rubber and Plastic)

I Check Frame Crossmembers For Cracks or Bows (trailer)

I inspect Brake Chambers For Decay AND slacks for proper stroke (Wifey Helps for that)

Suspension is checked For Dry Rotting (bags) and leaf springs for fatigue

steering- I check P/S resevoir for leaks, Check Freeplay in Knuckle......Check pit-arm Drag Link...... Tie Rod Ends for Play And King-pins for play

Air Leaks- I check for audible Leaks Everywhere with 120 PSI and Brakes Released with Truck Shut Off....

Yes..Im Particular and it takes a bit over an hour to do...But Its woreth it

90% or higher of drivers could not do a full blown PTI and get a passing score. I had been a driver for over 40 years and when I became a Michigan licensed CDL instructor I could not do a proper one. Never had to since older drivers like my self were grandfathered when the CDL came about. We did written testing but no PTI or road test. So I had to learn how do do the official PTI so I could teach it to students. Even drivesr that have gone through a CDL school and have driven for a few years have forgotten a lot of the official PTI.

So I would say the answer to you question probably ZERO.

And you do this everyday? I check for leaks and air leaks as well...but you right it would take like a hour everyday to do a full d.o.t inspection
