Father (60) is a company OTR truckdriver, has his DOT medical examine in a week and a bit. He's concerned that he may not pass his medical examine and be medically disqualified to have a CDL. If that happens, could he possibly qualify to draw unemployment?

Call the unemployment department, they should know.

Tried it. Got "not really sure, never heard of a truckdriver needing a medical exam before"

If he can't get unemployment he may be eligible for disability

my brother in law couldn't get it in utah. neither unemployment or disability.

he was grounded for 90 days till he got his condition in order. the only income he had. was a lump sum from aflac. and it wasn't very much. 4 weeks of his normal salary had to last him 12 weeks.

Disability isn't much better. I had to go on it for a while in 2011-12 and it paid maybe a quarter of my regular paycheck which was already fairly light. Hopefully nobody else has to have that adventure.

"un-employment compensation" is when you get laid off thru no fault of your own. As in lack of work or seasonal lay-offs. Or the company goes under and out of business.

At my job we switched companies giving the medical examines, 5 drivers went to get tested all 5 of them failed all for different reasons. Thank god for unions they were still able to come to work and keep busy.(not driving of course)

Not likely, not qualifying due to a medical condition does NOT make you disabled.

You can make an argument that you are willing to work as a dispatcher or something but they have no work for you.
