Hey guys! Sorry I've been absent on here lately.
I'm enjoying my job at ABF but am also looking at what else is out there.
Schneider has an opening for a dedicated route on their Family Dollar account. Would that be a good account to run?
From what I've read, Schneider is a decent company.
I like the fact that the miles/pay would be consistent and it would get me home every week or two.
What do you guys think?

Schneider Bulk (tankers) or stay where you are.
Years ago I had the chance to work for Yellow Freight, and didn't even consider the job; scoffed at the idea. No regrets either to this day. Not everyone is cut out for same routine day after day & year after year.
You're young and inside you want to stretch your wings and know you will never be able to do that with ABF. True, ABF is a great company with fantastic benefits and many consider it a dream job. A dream job for one person is a nightmare job for another person. If those union jobs are so great, why do they have to advertise for drivers and recruit new CDL graduates? They should have a long waiting list for those jobs, but they don't.Last edited: May 2, 2015

What does ABF have to offer? Don't they have drivers that shuttle trailers from terminal to terminal?

Going from ABF to a Schneider Family Dollar dedicated route would be like going from... ABF to Schneider. There's no comparison. There are folks out there who try for YEARS to get a gig with a company like ABF whereas Schneider will hire (almost) anyone who breathes air and has a CDL. You're talking about taking several BIG steps back in terms of the quality of your employer. Not to mention the unloading work for VERY little pay that would be required with a Family Dollar account. I don't think I can come up with a single good reason to make a switch like that.

You could not pay me enough to do dollar store deliveries. Home regularly or not, it would not be for me, but do what your first instincts tell you to do.
texasbbqbest, Snowshoes and Voyager1968 Thank this. -

Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree......you haul a lot of Dollars but make none yourself. Look for better companies if you're not happy at ABF.
Bakerman and texasbbqbest Thank this.
