I decided to chronicle my experiences running 100% legal just to prove (or maybe even disprove) my belief that by doing the logbook exactly the way the law requires us to that I will suffer a drastic pay cut. I might be wrong but we will see.
Starting on 9/7, I had exactly 31.5 hours off duty at home. (BTW, that was the first time I had been home in 5 WEEKS!) I had to be back in the truck at 0400 as I had a 0530 appt and I live an hour from the consignee, so there was no way to stretch my break to get a 34 hr restart, so I start the week with 26.75 hrs on my 70.
I arrived at the cons. at 0500 after driving 45 mins, it took 5 hrs to get unloaded, couldn't sleep as I had to keep moving the truck occaisionally, left at 10am, drove 1 hr to my next load, they took 3.75 hrs to load me, drove the rest of my available hours, parked at 1800.
    total driving time: 4.75 hrs,
    total on duty,not driving 9.25 hrs, .25 pretrip,.25 posttrip/paperwork,
    total mileage: 241
total pay for the day:$81.94 + $25 detention
    or $7.64

After unloading yesterday, they actually had a load for me right away. 38 mt miles, 644 loaded miles. A 1 day run, right? wrong! Not if you have to run legal!
Well, I managed to turn about about 145 miles of that run before I ran out of hours. I was supposed to p/u at 0800,that didnt happen, I didnt leave the shipper until 1445 and I was supposed to deliver 644 miles away at 0800 today. I sent 3 msgs to dispatch telling I was not going to make it on time, they never responded. Finally I called and was told they will not take my load till tommorow.
So today I started at 0400, 30 min paperwork/pretrip, drove to Knoxville, TN for fuel, then shut down at 1300 in Resaca, GA as I wont park in any truckstop in Atlanta, had a bad experience there.
    total line 4: 1 hour
    total line 3: 7.75 hrs
    total mileage: 457 miles
    total pay: $155.38 or $17.76/hr

BTW, I have my next load already. But I have to deliver this one 1st at 0600, then 60 miles to my p/u in Kennesaw, GA. P/U at 0600, guess I'm going to be late, and they want me in Miami, FL the next day, 688 miles, at 0800. Already told dispatch that aint gonna happen either.
Now, if I didnt have to play by the rules, no problem. But....

I agree, if you stretch you would have been a day ahead of yourself. And would have been able to get a 34 reset too.

Dave, I see ya workin here and kind of admire you in a way, but..

Extreemely rich (beyond imagination) Washington DC lawmakers and the appointed beaurocrats they place in power, do more destuction by the minute to our country, by the UNGODLY burdensome rules, taxes, and regulations they force down the private sectors thoats, than you could ever do by cheating on your logs a few minutes here and there.

Dave, that's no slam on you for trying to be 100% legal (oxymoron in trucking btw), rather it's a slam aimed at the government and the trial lawyers who are in it for big time POWER or bigtime MONEY.

I admire you for trying to play all legal to the bone here, but in the end, it's respecatible hard working middle class tax paying Joes who loose out by playing by their game, due to the rules/laws/regulations legislated by "elected" (bought & paid for) millionares who are only interested in turning their million$ into billion$, or maintaining their power in office in Washington, or most likey both.

Okay, sorry to interupt with the side political rant. Log it all legal as you wish. Good luck bro..

I hope you can make a decent living Dave. Best wishes bro

(I posted this in part, so that the cement heads in Washington DC who may be googling further trucking regulation and come across this thread, can see our point of view)...........(yeah that'll happen)

Twice running legal, I have managed to only have 85 miles of driving during the great 14 hour window.

Dang it driver..... :biggrin_2556: When I was with maverick one time I delivered to c bean in ft smith. I got there the night before and slept in our yard 6 miles away. I kicked off and went back to the yard knowing I would load at mac steel. Set there all day waiting and time I got loaded, secured and tarped, got mad and took a shower and went to bed. logged 12 miles that day.....

But not at me! This is a new, company-wide policy. My dispatcher claims this policy has doubled his work load! He claims that almost all he does now is re-schedule appts and set up relays for drivers b/c we are OUT OF HOURS! I wish I had access to the real numbers, the # of drivers who who quitting, the # of miles all of the drivers are losing, and the # of customers that will be giving our frieght to other carriers!
In case anyone is thinking of going to drive for my company, they are a fairly large outfit. The name starts with "K" and ends with "night". (both dry and reefer side have the same, new, stupid-as* policy!) So, be warned!
