Laughable Loads.

Every flatbedder has one or two in his repetoir I'm sure.

One of my favs goes as follows:

I picked up a load of lumber from a small custom sawmill in Cape Breton NS bound for a lumber dealer in Toronto, Ont. The lumber was all "exotic" stuff like bird's eye maple and the like for "High-end" homes. All tarped and plastic-wrapped.

Got to the dealer at night and settled into the line-up outside his gate. Next morning I was third into the yard and started taking straps and tarps off. The yard guy stopped me saying "Don't unwrap, the load is already sold and we want it delivered there". He had this little smirk on his face as I was cussing and grumbling. "Don't worry, you'll like this one" he says.

I went inside for the papers and here's another "office monkey" with a stupid grin on his face. Grinning shippers make me nervous. I did a double take on the delivery address... Cape Breton NS..... at almost twice the rate for bringing it up. Shipper says it's a rich dude from NYC building a "summer house" (read castle).

So off I go and find the place. Ol' Boston is there and proceeds to tell me about how he searched all over for "just the right wood" and how it was "Expensive but had to be the best". So proud of himself he was fit to bust. As the old saying goes; "If he coulda licked himself he woulda". Them Boston Yakees got smart stickin' out all over them.

Afterf we got unloaded and the bill signed and all that I told him there was something he might like to know. Took him up on my trailer and pointed down the hill.... to the sawmill just about 2 miles away. Then showed him the original shipping papers.

Boy, them Boston folks know alot of fancy cuss words.

I hauled a load of pink insulation on a flatbed. Took 4 forklifts at once to lift in onto the truck. Full length sheets. No clue why. Weighed in at just under 7K for the load. I was full height, width and length on a 48' flatbed.

Something about a special order and all that for full size sheets.

Got to the receiver on the farm. They had no way to lift it off......

So they cut it into 10 foot lengths.

I just pulled a LTL out of Milwaukee area going to Holland, MI. The agent told me it weighed under 100lbs. When I got to the shipper, it was a small box about the size of a cooler and weighed 78lbs. I put it inside the cab and took it to the receiver. Paid full truck load rate. So i booked another load to Grand Rapids. Once I got there I found out the shipper had sent a load of water screens for a filtration machine and forgot the hardware box. Not a bad trip getting paid for 2 loads and only pulling 1 of them LOL

I picked up a load from a coca cola plant and thought oh great,load is going to be so heavy and I have to weigh it and is its over gross ill have to come back and have them rework the load.An hr later theyre done I get to the guard shack and getting ready to close the doors and only a half pallet of coke.Guard called the shipper to make sure the load was correct.I told the guard I sure hope im not too heavy,lol.

Ive hauled a couple loads, got to the receiver, pulled in "O, I didnt expect you today"... Or get to the place and they have no idea its coming in on a 48' trailer. How do we not know this? YOU ORDERED IT!! Delivered to the lsu tigers campus, was there for 5 hours (got paid detention) because they didnt have anyplace to put it. Ended up putting it on the roof.

That's a great story BUT....

Isn't it illegal for you to pick up a load in Canada and deliver it within Canada?? You did it twice on the same load.... Since your from the U.S ??

How dumb can the guy be when there the sawmill is within viewing distances from his place lol.. What an idiot..

I believe that law is for Canadian drivers inside the US. It does not apply to US drivers in Canada. But I might be wrong
