I came up on a guy im Tulsa today with an onion load. His tarp flap in the rear had come completely loose and was beating on the bags so hard onions were spilling out.
I tried to get him on the radio and of course he didnt answer. Pulled up next to him and he wouldnt look at me so I could tell him.
Flipping idiot.

I saw a guy hauling onions in a Conestoga wagon. Just had the back door rolled up .... Talk about easy lol

I have hauled to many onions in my life. I don't mind them on pallets or in totes. I have had to many loaded right on the floor of my reefer. The amount of onions left crushed (100 to 150 pounds) in the floor made for a fun cleanup before the next load.
The truck wash I would go to for a wash out would send someone out with 2 trash cans any time I pulled in. They would make me pay extra if I didn't scoop and sweep before they washed it.
But the fun of watching the kids come running out of my trailer crying was fun. -
After seeing about a thousand of those loads this week some leaning some losing onions...... We decided onions are on the no haul list for us.
SHC Thanks this. -
Hauled onions last year in a vented van, got $5,250 to $5,600 to NYC from western Idaho...

There was a guy parked next to me in Gila Bend, AZ the other night that was hauling some onions back to the Dakotas in a homemade vented van.
He moved some guy down there that had his own van trailer. He got payed for moving him and got the trailer as well which was no real prize.. He took a sawzall to the trailer and made it vented after he dropped the guys possessions off.AZS Thanks this. -
That's funny! The load I got last week wasn't too bad, 21 super sacks.

copper is still not caught up in rates but the watermelons and onions have forced other freight to raise their rates to compete. I have never and probably will never haul them, but they help the AZ rates so they are real blessings for an AZ based carrier.
last I looked they were at or close to 3 mile from yuma or nogales to VA,NC,SC....thats not cheap freight to me?
