Getting loaded with wire spools today. 20,000lbs a piece. Had two. 96" tall. Just came off hometime this morning and as always I did it wrong. Stayed up way too late getting truck supplies squared away after watching the travesty of my beloved Saints. Woke up late and didn't have time for breakfast. Get to the shipper and I'm tired, cranky and have no energy.
As I'm struggling to get my binders tight before I run out of thread I ask myself "why do I do this?? Swinging doors are so much easier. Being a flatbedder stinks!!! I finally get done and walk to shipping office. On my way there I pass another truck and see the driver humming to himself happily securing his load. He had 12 of these spools loaded 3 deep 4 long. He was happy and he was getting it done by himself.
The name on his truck is Paraway trucking. He is confined to a wheel chair. No use of his legs whatsoever. He has fashioned a pole with a rope attached. Runs that through spools hooks the chain to the rope and wheels to the other side and pulls it through. Has a side box mounted next to passenger door for the chair, non powered, and a lift attached to the side of his truck with a seat mounted on it to get in and out.
I sometimes get so frustrated with this job when things don't go the way I want them to. When I saw him, happily at work it made me realize I needed to shut up, get the job done and be thankful for the ease of which I can do it. This guy was awesome.
Inspired and humbled

Thanks for this, I really needed it. It amazes me how people with, what I perceive to be, insurmountable problems/issues, not only overcome, but THRIVE. This is proof positive that a good attitude is everything. There's a special place in Heaven for these people.

He was loading 12 20,000lbs spools (240,000ibs) on one trailer? Are you sure it wasnt a barge?
Must have been something substantially lighter per spool then you loaded.
