Sorry, but a 'freight agent' works FOR a broker. This is starting to sound more and more like a scam the more I hear about it.
Looking for some info on becoming a broker or dispatcher from home!

I don't see it as an issue being an independent dispatcher. It really is no different than hiring someone to do bookkeeping or collections. And if know money is being sent from the shipper to the dispatcher then everything is above board and legal.
Now, the "training". This feels a lot like those freight broker training classes. It really doesn't take a lot of effort to create class like this. And all you need is a very small percentage of people to say it sounds great and buy into the story that is being sold. The simple truth is these people paying for this service are buying forms and stories and nothing else. -
You will need to convince a carrier that it is worth the expense of using your service and that you can do a better job than them. I would not dispatch for 3.5%. You might do better with the single truck operator who is starting out. But, unless you understand what you are doing, you won't be able to do any better than the truck owner. There are a couple of reasons to use a dispatch service. First you can get the carrier better rates. Second, you can make the owner moire productive and do all the paperwork.

When an owner leases his truck to a carrier, the owner operator must have the carrier's name and dot number on his truck. He must also have his cab card changed to show that he is operating under the carrier's authority. You cannot operate a class 8 truck without motor carrier authority. You either operate under your own authority or under someone who does have authority.

Just wondering how it all worked out. My husband is looking into buying his own truck and since I'm a stay at home mom, I thought I could learn to dispatch for him
