Hi,
I have 3 years experience in the busines (2.5 as driver and 0.5 as o/o) I have one truck and 53' dry van, my average load price by odometer is $2.35 per mile.
I am now paying 10% for dispatch, but planning to start my own authority.
my question is how does the brokers looks at the small companies, with one or few trucks. How can I set up with JB Hunt, Covenant, ups,...e.t.c?
Thank you!

You can setup with any broker. Almost all could care less how big you are or how small you are. You don't have to get setup with anyone until your ready to haul a load for them then do the paperwork.

$2.35 a mile all miles pulling a van sounds very good to me even after 10% dispatch fee,i wont even think about getting my own authority but that is just me.

the only things brokers consider is the price you will haul for and dependability,,don't put all you eggs in one basket,,spread your risk out to a few good brokers that pay well and on time,,many carriers also broker freight too,, remember when you agree to haul a load for a broker or carrier you are giving them credit,,check them out and be carful with small brokers , make sure you get a copy of their broker bond and if the do not oay as agreed on time file against their bond if they become more than 5 days late paying,,they will get mad and usually pay after you file and never load you again,,but here is the deal "YOU HAUL THEY PAY AND YOU DELIVERED ON TIME THEY PAY ON TIME"
IF ANYONE YOU HAUL A LOAD FOR DOES NOT PAY AS AGREED DON'T HAUL FOR THEM AGAIN,,If YOU ARE A GOOD HAULER YOU ONLY WANT TO WORK WITH GOOD BROKERS!! -
I'll take these notes and do it step by step, because this definitely is the next level and if I want to continue to grow I have to take it. I will stay with my dispatch for few more months to build some capital and go for it.

Actually only a few brokers will use a truck with a new MC # If I was you I would call a few and ask do they do business with a brand new MC #.

Cetane+ Thanks this.

I asked a few brokers we use because JJ's brother was thinking of getting his own #s and most said 6 months, some were a year.
