I'm buying a 2005 classic xl that's in good shape has a cat c-15 vin says its a L6, 14.6L (893 CID). My only thing is the guy says it has a 9speed in it. given that he also is saying it can be changed over to a 13speed with the drop of a air line and changing the shifter out. I was just wanting to know if this is the case or not. Also not really sure of the make of the tranny think its a Easton looks like it in the picks forgot to ask him that. All in all I would like to make this a 13 speed if that is the case. One more thing I am going to need a bed for this truck just b/c I don't think there is one in it I don't know the size it need or where I can get one like stop and pick it up. Thanks for the help in adv. guys keep on rolling.

This may help you see what you're getting into. Many 9s are convertible but I think there is more to it then you have posted here. -
ya I thought so my self. thanks for the info just hope i'm not screwing my self up buying a truck lol leaving a company I been at for 3 years. Just trying to make my somewhat of a dream come true lol. Not used to a xl but hey its a start plus its what I learned to drive in. I heard they hard on fuel was thinking the 9 to a 13 speed would help on that some what. But out of all the truck I have driven the fright shakers where my lucky charms.

If you are talking about a Werner XL, like in your pic, likely to be convertible. Take the VIN# and call a dealer. They could answer lots of questions including this one. They can give you the warranty history on the truck as well.

New back box, shorten drive shaft(?), and new shifter knob. The shifter it's self is the same and running the control lines for the splitter . The 13 speed will help you match power band to the load conditions .

Just as silly as saying my 150 gallon tanks add too much weight, when I dont HAVE to fill them up.
My truck, being wide open, is going to get me tickets, when I dont HAVE to drive with my foot on the floor.
So on and so forth, but hopefully the OP gets the idea. There is absolutely no downsides to you going up in the number of gears available. Any (debatable if any IMHO) losses in MPG by changing gears more often, will be more than recouped by having the motor in it's happy and most efficient range of RPM's.

Martin summed it up very well.
When i'm empty my 13 speed becomes a 9 speed. -
you can drive the 13 just like you can the 9 spd. I know I do. I don't start splitting till the top two holes unless I am maxed out on weight. You get much better control over the equipment.
areelius Thanks this.
