I hit the fast idle and set it up to 1000 RPM to do that test.

    Cool...

I'm going to be getting that Duralite CAC here pretty soon....

I'm not sure how much it'll help, this Western Star 4900EX is pretty much a brick in the wind....

The latest in this saga is the set of 4 used virgin Bridgestone M710's with 10/32 tread left on them. I have a set of 8 michelin recaps that were on the truck. 3 of them had a really bad wear pattern in them. (hint, DON'T run your tires with 65 lbs of air) The precipitate to that was coming home I had a sidewall blow out on one of the drives. Just a rapid deflation, nothing came apart.

While dealing with the flat tire, they wanted $380-390 for a single tire. They wanted $875 for a matched set of used virgin tires. The recaps were so weather-checked and bothersome to me, I spent the money.

What I noticed already is that I am running about .25 mpg better fuel mileage. The noise and vibration going down the road is gone and this guy will likely never run recaps again if I can help it.

    Grijon Thanks this.

With only 65 lbs of air in the drives Im suprised that you only get a .25 bump in milage with the new tires. Ive always had good luck with caps but the ticket is to know the history of the casings( I wont buy a used recop) and to keep the air pressure monitored.
The less tread that is on a tire the more fuel economy it will get but this increase isnt that big

the wear pattern in the old tires was a result last January of running with 65 lbs of air in the tires. The set of recaps that were on the truck were there when I bought the truck in July last year.

Even at .25 mpg, that's a savings of $250 per month. About $3000 annually. That MORE Than pays the difference of $1200 between recaps and virgin Tier 1 tires.
