im trying to get the ac comp to engage.i changed the comp.the two lines that connect to back of comp.dryer, binary switch ,the two sensors that are in the ductworkinside of the cab by the fuse panel.oh ya also switched relay in panel now a freind who is a mechanic mentioned that there are air switches behind the dash mounted on the fire wall.there is.there are 6 mounted in a air manifold.with the truck running i have power at the binary plug also at the comp plug.i reversed the connection of the test light to test for ground.no ground in comp plug.before i get nuts and start cutting into the harness,is one of the air switches or could one of them be causing this problem or a bad connection.

On my 05 Century the compressor will not come on until the low air alarm goes off. One on those switches on the air manifold controls this, not sure witch one.

Check to see if all the grounds on you're starter are on I've seen it before that mechanics forget to put something back its a small ground wire also what year is you're century it is possible if its got a sleeper there is an ac freeze switch in the sleeper as well

it does have a sleeper with air and heat controls.its an 07 columbia and i went to the ta and they called frtlnr for a schematic.when i called got the usual from them. this was my 2nd truck purchaced from them and it will be the last from them.oh in case your int fyda frtlnr in youngstown oh is the dealer.any ways thats a whole trilogy of errors with them better not get started.i bought a air switch that is supposed to be for this truck.going to put it in in the morning.skydriver311 do you have an e mail add. i have a copy of the paper with the schematics to 5 different air manifolds with switches detailed

this is turning into a major disaster.none of the schematics i have are to my truck.im going to start trial and error in am.i dont have a ground in either harness (the binary and the comp)so that is whats leading me to believe that there is a bad switch under the dash.i jumped the last compressor and it kicked on then it blew out coolant from the back side of it and ruined it.just a tad bit gunshy now. any information would be appreciated

    Ziklude Thanks this.

jpal, what eng do u have? Wiring schematics I have are for Century with Detroit engine. Are u getting 12volt to the comp. If not I start checking voltage at the dash switch and work toward the comp. The on/off switch for AC gets power from the fan switch [fan must be set on a speed].
If u have the DD engine and would like to talk send me a PM with your phone number and I will give you a call.

grab the wiring harness from the ECM to the firewall. Mainly right up above the starter and push/pull it. Your A/C controls also go through that wiring harness. It's a known fault that this thing will fail with Freightliner and they won't fix the issue. It will cause all kinds of problems, including an A/C system that won't work as well as Trans controller issues, (I have an automatic trans error on a 13 spd from it), gages inop as well as power/economy issues.

There are pictures of the fault in the link below.

Plug everything back in except the a/c compressor. Run the truck with the a/c on and check for voltage at compressor using an external ground i.e. alternator ground. If you have voltage, hook the test light or dvom to the positive stud on alternator and check for ground at the compressor. Like a previous poster put, your compressor grounds at the starter. You could either have no ground at the compressor, or even two positives. If you have ground but no voltage at the compressor, check for any faults on the dash, either starting with 146 or 200. If you PM me with the last 6 of your vin I can get you a wiring diagram.

well finally bit the bullet took it to the shop and they had a hard time with it also.tech couldn't find wires running to the comp or to the starter. there was a connection and harness start to trace the wires follow to a larger harness then gone, anyhow tech rewired and replaced binary plug .thanks for all the input now im having issues with the front differential input seal.oh the differentials are mba Mercedes benze alliance maybe that's the reason parts are about 30% more for this fine piece of technology.
