the jake switch has 3 settings..high, off, and low.

on low the jake goes off and on by itself.

on high i can tell when the same 2 cylinders are not slowing the truck down.

check engine light goes off and on on long hills too.

all gauges are reading perfect and the truck runs perfect otherwise. about 82000 miles on it.

i think it may be the switch but im unsure.

Does the ecm on a 1998 12.7 det have a memory to let me know why the check engine light comes on and off?

truck is a 2012 coronado glider kit if it matters

    Thoughts and ideas? Thanks

when my speed sensor went out same thing happened with the jake, but also my cruise and speedo where visibly acting up. your 2012 should still have a warranty on the truck?

You might have a bad connection.

I had a similar problem on my cat c-15. I would cut in and out on the medium and high settings. It was a broken wire on the engine.

i agree with lone ranger sounds like the harness under valve cover is bad if its only doing it on low setting pretty common on older engines if it wasnt replaced during rebuild . although on a glider it could be other areas i suppose depending on how good wiring to mate older engine to chassis was done

It will come up with a 31 code depending whether it,s a short to ground or an open - check sensor harness at ecm plug right on the bend were the conduit stops and look at the red and orange wire in the lower section ( conduit with age loses it,s clip and rubs through jake wire )

there is the code list now the jakes have to plugs on IV one plug at the ecm and one just under the intake manifold. either could be bad. also s60 12.7 are known for bad head harnesses. good news is they are simple to change bad news you have to pull vavle cover and jakes. the harness runs both jakes and injectors. it could also be you have a broken jake wire under the pan and it is grounding out to the motor. just had to fix that on mine......
