Which engine is it,first of all?
I am driving a 2013 with dd 15, and there is no odor at all, even checking the exhaust during a regen, which is seldom needed.
A fair number of companies are buying them with Cummins. I notice smoky engines running, especially older ones in poor shape.

A lot of times in newer trucks, I have seen a strange smell coming from the paint that is around the aftertreatment. When the engine goes in regen mode, it heats the paint and causes a smell. It isnt much of an exhaust smell, and goes away after a regen or two. You may want to check for soot around any clamps in the exhaust manifold, as well as the clamp from the front bellow (flex pipe) going into the aftertreatment one box.
Cristal143 and mhyn Thank this. -
Have a Freightliner Columbia 2006 with the mbe 450 ,the slip joints in the exhaust leak and seem to be impossible to fix ,the exhaust comes up and gets sucked in through the vent under the hood ,,, it's impossible to sleep in it or even sit in it while its idling for long, finally had to reroute the intake down to the front of the truck just below the radiator ,was $20 fix but sure did the job ,can post pictures if anyone cares to know how I done it ,also it helps to leave the engine fan on when its idling ,

all new cascadias are smelling like something is burning... don't pay attention,. it will go off after 2-3 weeks (4-5k m).

A "house" type detector from Lowes, Walmart, or anywhere else will not fully protect a driver from Carbon Monoxide in his truck!
If you do not believe it check out, www.TruckMonoxide.com Look at the video and a full explanation there and you can see why.. You are right Carbon Monoxide is not something to fool around with. Drive safe out there!! -
if you have SCR engine you don't need to buy carbon monoxide detector. fumes contain N2, water and tiny amounts of CO2. NO CARBON MONOXIDE - CO.

You are totally missing the point here............... This is what comes out of the end of the tailpipe after treatment,, you evidently did not go to the website www.TruckMonoxide.com and even realize what is happening,,, Carbon Monoxide and many other toxic fumes, including soot and soot particles, are coming into these new trucks with the scr systems from all the leaks into the engine and cabs of these trucks BEFORE they get to the tailpipe. Like I say go the www.TruckMonoxide.com website and get some information that may help you....... Look at all the NHSTA reports of fumes from diesels in their trucks and view the video of a driver like yourself that was in a coma for 6 weeks because of it,, read the articles of all the drivers that have been pulled out dead in their trucks for "natural causes" or "unexplained" and were found "badly decomposed",.. guess what,, carbon monoxide poisoning causes very rapid decomposing of a body!!!!!!!! Information is worth a thousand words!!!!! -

Buddy from exhaust manifold to DOC pipeline is almost sealed. DPF area is sealed too, dpf has front seal and back side one time usable clamp. I have 2012 Cascadia. I have taken off parts from aftertreatment box and I know what I am writing. if your truck is not well maintained that is different story. If you truck has a leaking area on that pipe you will know it because of sound when you drive and check engine light will be on too. Now about reprt you have mentioned. F*** all NHSTA, CARB,.... reports. you are an American and you know very well somebody pays , somebody makes reports to scare people or sell something or.... )))))) theoretically you can have CO in your cab if you have finger size crack on exhaust manifold BUT if you will have that size crack, you will have jet plane noise too while you driving. I checked the website and did not found anything about SCR engines. I saw an article about epa07 engine which is not SCR.RoadDog535 Thanks this. -
Thank you for your response,, even tho it is misguided,, funny you never mentioned about all the different people that have been hurt by Carbon Monoxide or the guy that spent 6 weeks in a coma because of it, or about the people that have been hurt by it, or the drivers that have died from it that are listed or the drivers that have spent time in the emergency rooms because of it... By the way, you are right the epa07 engine is not scr, because it even says so on the website....it is egr...Just the other day they just pulled another drive out of his truck in Laredo, guess why?? Carbon Monoxide...But I guess you are right it cannot hurt you,,,
