Is it possible to upgrade front suspension on Freightliner Columbia 2006, from leaf spring to air bag? I have seen some Columbia's with factory front air suspension, but not too many. What will be the eventual cost of doing that? I know is not going to be as soft as Volvo, but maybe close....

Yikes! I want to see what the mechanics say about this one, I think you would have to change everything from the steering shaft all the way out to the wheel hub or spindle! this is a big job and may never be right, that meaning that the steers will wear quickly. I'll get some snacks and watch this thread! Good luck.

Check out Donvel. I have one but never got it put on. Everyone says it looks like overload setup and would be worse but the salt of the earth people at Donvel claim it really works good and others on here too.

You will need a new hendrickson front axle, new leaf springs, new hangers, shocks, air bags, tie rod and leveling valve. You can probably check out a junk yard and get a new front axle.

I would agree with IH Branded on the Donvel. It would probably be more cost effective to go that route than changing over the entire front end, and yield the same or better result.

what makes you think this would be an upgrade ? just curious, IMO their is nothing inherent to air bag suspension which makes it better than steel, only that it can be regulated to accept a range of loads. The load on your front axle shouldn't vary by much, so why would you benefit from air there ?
