Hey guys, I'm about to purchase my first truck and need your opinion on these two.

    truck #1
2006 freightliner columbia (780k, all new tires, new shocks, new clutch, airbags, cat c15 twin turbo 435hp)

    truck #2
2005 freightliner century (740k, decent tires, fleet maintained, Detroit s60)

both are 13k, I don't know which to buy. Is the c15 a good engine? Are there dpf kits for the c15? After 2015 I have to put a dpf on it. I checked out both trucks and the columbia is clean it was bought from rb auction.. Please help on which to buy.

if you plan on running cali buy an 08 or newer with dpf. Adding on dpf after is expensive. I'd go with the detroit for better fuel economy, but the Detroit vs cat debate has been done to death. Search the forum to find your answer. The century and Columbia are just about the same truck aside from the grill

Wouldn't buy either truck. Both EGR motors. Find the work first and then buy the truck to fit the needs of the hauling. Many companies require trucks no older than 5 years. Find the history on the truck from rigdig I'm guessing you will be running California as you mention the after 2015 you will need a DPF. If that is so, look at something newer, and more costly, but the truck you buy will make a difference in the bottom line for years to come. I would personally look for a 2010 and newer Freightliner Cascadia with a DD-15 or DD-13.

If OP can't go any higher than $13K he's not going to be able to buy an 08 or newer truck...

Dude don't waste ya time! Just buy a truck with the system already added! You add that system and you might burn up that motor.

$13K for both seems high to me.... I wouldn't buy either and that is only because I will never go to CA and I would buy a pre-egr for that reason.

I wouldnt buy either. TOO OLD. Need something you dont have to work on all the time. IE replacing turbos, tires, injectors. Maybe put about 10000 down on at least a 2010 if you have the grip.Dont want any downtime .

I bought a 2001 century with a 12.7 Detroit 1,004,000 miles on it, for 9000 from a bank. Made 50000 gross in the last 3 months with it. 7.4 mpg last 3 months. No truck payment. Yes I do put money into the truck, but it don't add up to a truck payment.

That's my story. I'm very happy. And yes I'm going to have to replace some big things on the truck(rears trans) but then I'll be good for another 8 years or so.
