so wondering if there is any way to bypass the anti-idle auto engine shutdown on a 2010 Freightliner Columbia.

    wont idle between 26 - 75 degrees.

Get sleep apnea get a c- pap machine. My brother has it and werner disabled his idle shutdown. Even though it probably wouldn't kill the batteries if they didn't disable it.

In all seriousness I have heard (haven't tried it cause the truck they issued me doesn't ever shut off) I am told you can buy the hand warmers you stick in your gloves and boots in the winter and tape 1 around your temp. Sensor to fool it into thinking it's warmer than it really is. My old trainer claimed that's what he used to do

Go to work for a company with apu's or one that allows you to idle...

cannot understand why anyone would work like that.

The parameters are set up with the laptop they hooked up to the ECM. The company can choose several options. These newer trucks there are no bypasses that I know of. Older models you could have 15-20 years ago. The temperature sensor is usually mounted on the air cleaner intake. It would take some kind of resistor mounted in a jump wire to trick it. Then again the company can monitor your idle time and know something is up. The best thing to do is ask these questions when you hire in. When you have to sweat so the company can stick another dollar in their pocket, then there are problems.

That's slick. It sounds like it might work. But it could get expensive.

On my truck it gives you a "idle violation in 60 seconds" warning, then the "idle warning" light will light up on the dash.. when that happens all I have to do is rev the engine to trick the computer into thinking that I am moving the truck.

on mine if you set the cruise while idling then i can idle as long as i like...i do have a battery powered apu but it only lasts around 10 hrs.

    "Idle warning in 60 seconds."

And which company, is this? Just curious. Don't want a fleet truck that was stopped from idling before the turbo even had a chance to cool...On second thought I don't want a fleet truck at all...

On the past 3 years of Cascadia models, it's been located on the back of the frame. Tucked into the rear frame cross member, behind the 5'th wheel. It's a black sensor, with a gentle tip on it. I always called it the long nipple. Take that for what you will. Hand warmer, Styrofoam cup and a rubberband. This is starting to sound like a kinky night in Albuquerque.

You would have to do some googling to find the location. (Unless someone here knows on that particular model and they chime in) I have seen them in the mirror (heard in that case turning on your mirror heaters will bump up the sensor a few degrees. Have seen them on the back of the frame, also near the air intake. The info is out there just have to find it for your truck

No. I only do it once.

Once bypassed, I can idle for as long as I want. :biggrin_25514:

p.s. posting on these forums is starting to give me a migraine headache.
