Most truck fuel gages are off. You can try replacing the sending unit (the float). Its about $189

The fuel gauge is not really a sending unit. It is a half moon resistor that can take a direct mortar hit if you ever looked at it. The more or less the float goes up or down the more or less resistance it gives. That's how it works. What happens is that people hit the rod when fueling up and cause it to bend and give a wrong reading.

    tj9281 Thanks this.

when i changed out mine i used a fork lift to support the tank then slightly rotated it once disconnected and pulled the unit out. I been told you can do it with 2 hydro jacks tho you will have to build a support to hold the tank and not dmg it.

    tj9281 Thanks this.

Just drill small holes in the end of the tank, you can tell the fuel level by seeing which hole it leaks out of. Mount a candle below it so you can tell the level at night

On a KW I drove back in the 70s the mechanic put in 2 90 degree fitting one at the top the other at the bottom with a clear plastic tube between them, like probably 3/8 diameter. Worked perfect till it got covered in snow.
