Has anyone else had an issue with their trucks randomly shutting off and immediately restarting while going down the road? At first I thought clogged fuel filters so I canged them out. Still did stop it. I had my mechanic come out and take a look at it. The only think we found is a fuel leak on the back of the engine that he refuses to touch due to its location. Im thinking this might have something to do with it because i see fuel leaking down onto the battery box, no telling what other electrical componets are getting soaked with diesel. Im dropping the truck off at freightliner on Wednesday but this is kinda discouraging. I just bought the truck last week and I've already put a new power steering pump, new doser module, new DPF metering unit, replaced the NOX sensor, and had to tighten the U clamps on the front end. Luckily truck still has some warranty left and what isn't under warranty the dealer I bought it from is paying for. They are even paying for my hotel and meals while truck is in the shop and if truck has to stay in for too long they are going to pay for a rental. I do applaud them for that, not too many dealers out there that will do that.

Hav'em check the ignition switch where the key goes...mine did the same thing and it turned out the ignition was shutting off & on while going down the road. Wires loosened up...."Imagine that" ???

engine oil goes nowhere near the batteries.

the fuel tank, however. is located right behind the batteries. so do the cooling lines to the bunk heater.
they both run up above the batteries.

I have heard that high pressure fuel pump's oil seal gets bad and the left rear side of engine and battery box and cover get oily. Detroit has special bulletin about that seal. Also there is a recall on some dd15 engines for high pressure fuel feed lines

I had a oil leak in that area. the freightliner replaced valve train housing bottom gasket under warranty. Detroit updated that gasket and the one witch goes under coolant module last year. if you have truck leaking that area they may fix it free. Fuel leak is easy fix and it is usually loosen hose as you mentioned.
