Do you have Opti-idle?
Are you the truck owner, lease or a company driver?

I'm not sure if this will help you but here is my experience.
I have a 2015 Cascadia that we lease from Ryder. The day I picked it up it was hot (June) & I was attempting to idle the truck & I couldn't get it to idle for more that maybe 4 or 5 minutes while trying to move stuff from the old truck to the new one. I went inside & asked them to come show me how to get this new truck to idle. I explained that we didn't have an APU so, I need to be able to idle all night.
They said I had to turn the key on & let it cycle through its pre-start checks etc, then start it, then use the cruise control to idle it up (900 rpm max) & it will idle. Neither of us could get it to idle for more than a few minutes. After much checking & trouble shooting.... & after specifically saying they could not disable the idle limiter per Ryder rules.... they disabled it.
Now, mine idles all I need it to, idled up or not.....
So, will they? I don't know.
Is it a Frieghtliner warranty issue? I don't know
Is it a Ryder issue? I don't know.
I have heard (here at TTR I think) that you're not supposed to low idle these new engines at 500 - 600 rpms. IIRC, you're supposed to idle up these engines at like 800 - 900 rpm if your gonna idle for any length of time.
Its not a direct answer but I hope this will add something to other answers you get.RERM Thanks this. -

You need Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link 8.0 to change the parameters in the ECM, which may be password protected by the company or Ryder.
I have my own copy, cost $500 from Detroit plus another $700 for the adaptor, but I own my own truck. -
Take your fifth wheel puller, jam it between clutch and steering, clutch will be engaged and it won't shut off. Little redneckish but do you want to have a good night of sleep?

Having said taht, I've never been able to set the RPMs at a specific range with a stick from the petal to the seat or steering wheel etc. I usually just had to settle for whatever it gave me, as close as I could get it. Usually trying to get a steady 300 rpm difference from a sitting idle of 600 but no more than 900 is hard to set that way..
I'm not disagreeing with the idea, just saying I never had any luck with that method on this truck.
Hope this helps -

Not sure if the bigger trucks are different, however like others have suggested I can override the 5 minute idle limit on my Freightliner M2 by idling it up with the cruise control.

*sarcastic comment* work for a better company that donest have ilde restrictions on the truck. but agreed with the rest of the group, idle it up to 7-900 RPM via cruise switch
