I have a 2002 International 9200-i with a Detroit 430 engine recently i started having trouble with the cruise disengaging so i replaced both of the parking brake pressure switches, wich solved the problem of the disengaging cruise. But now my cruise will not high idle when i'm parked i know this isn't good on the turrbo to idle at 600rpm. instead of a 1,000 rpm. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ken

I kind of have a question regarding high idle, too. It's only on rare (once-a-month) occasions I hear someone high-idle. Most trucks are just droning away at around 600-650. If they're idling at all. I'm not hearing too awful much about blown turbos as a result.

So, my question is: Are there really that many steering-wheel-holders out here who don't high-idle? Or is it simply not necessary? It's an honest question.

If the cruise works going down the road, then on/off switch is ok. That only leaves the park brake switch or circuit. Detroits need to see the park brake is engaged and cruise switch on, that's it. If you replaced the switched it must be in the wiring. Make sure you did replace the switch with the right one, some are normally open, some are normally closed.

As for idling, diesels don't create enough heat to properly burn all the fuel. You can get cylinder washing which creates cylinder wall glazing. Lower ignition temps result in more fuel slobbering and carbon build up.

:biggrin_25519:Thanks for the input Heavyd. I think it's the wiring but i'm gonna also check the small plastic manifold that holds both the parking brake pressure switches for leaks as well.

I was told by our mechanic that if I idle the truck, to do so at a minimum of 1,000 rpm. Otherwise it's building carbon or something. Said that idling under a grand is bad on the engine. I don't idle much but when I do, I try to remember to bump up the rpms.

    I had a problem with a 2010 KW T660. Wouldn't fast-idle, and cruise wouldn't work.

Problem was the clutch pedal. Some crummy plastic on the bottom of the dash rubbing on the clutch lever, wouldn't let it return up high enough to reset the clutch pedal switch. Mechanic "fixed" it twice, then I gave up.

To set the fast idle or to use the cruise, you gotta lift upward on the clutch pedal with your toe first.

When I switched trucks, I left a note in the truck for the next driver.
