This is my first post and I need some help. I am considering buying a 96 international Eagle 9400, but when I try to start the truck it cuts on and then cuts right back off within a second or two. The truck has been parked for a couple of years according to the owner. The truck belonged to her father but he is no longer able to drive due to medical problems. I am trying to jump start truck from battery. At first the truck has a clicking sound when trying to start. Then after spraying starting fluid in the black air filter under the hood, the truck starts but immediately cuts off. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am just getting into the industry so I am trying to start off with something not to expensive until I can build up some revenue to buy a newer truck. I have a broker that is willing to give me work if I can get truck on the the road. Please help. Thank you.

Have you...ever been a driver before...?
tow614 and joseph1135 Thank this. -
CK.FUEL, RAD. if not full will do just that, if its cheap just pay the tow bill to shop if not dont buy?
-
If its been sitting so long maybe its the fuel?
-
That's exactly how I would start a truck that's been sitting a couple of years, just filler' full of ether. Nice one.
-
Im no mechanic but the I would think the ether is used just to start it and not keep it running. The fuel is used to keep it running .hence why it starts but doesn't stay running because it may be something going on with the fuel in it ..

That's my point, you start with the ground rules first. Filters, fuel etc. Starting fluid is the last resort for any engine, particularly one that's been sitting for 2 years. Oh, and I'm no mechanic either...
-
No I have not. Just getting in. I have driven trucks, but just moving them in yard at job.
baha Thanks this. -
Do you have five grand for a down payment on insurance? Two grand for license plates, 550 for the 2290 tax? A few grand for fuel and repairs once you get on the road? All in addition to the purchase price of the truck. If not that truck will do you no good sitting in your drive way. Oh and fyi, ether is a good way to turn a good engine into a worthless scrap pile.

Would be interested to know how many push rods are bent all to hell since it was running on starting fluid.
