So far I've had decent service out of my Maxxforce 13 engine but I'm concerned about rebuilding it when the time comes. Being a compacted steel block instead of a cast iron block I'm not so sure I want to rebuild it. I don't much care for DPF engines either. So my question is, has anyone had any luck swapping out engines. I now Internationals were available with the Maxxforce 15 (Caterpillar block), Maxxforce 13 (MAN engine) and a Cummins engine. What will I be facing if I decide down the road I want to swap this engine with say... a 2003 ISX engine rebuilt. Don't tell me legal issues because I don't care about those. I'm more interested in the nuts and bolts part. Thanks in advance for any help....

We haven't seen any engines yet get rebuilt because they have reached the end of their life. Other components are too costly to keep up such as egr coolers, egr valves. We are also finding the wiring is not as robust as it should be to make overhauling worth it either. Swapping engines would cost more than truck is worth. Complete engine harness to cab interface, exhaust and fuel line change over. Rads and air to air are different between these engines. You could need to rework the engine mounts. Haven't seen anyone try this. No kits available that I would know of. Again, the time and money involved would make it no longer worth it in my opinion.
