1999 9300 with a n14. After that it's crap. Anything 2008-2013 is bankruptcy material. Maxxforce...... bankruptcy material. Worst service out of any of the trucks.
What I wouldn't give for a brand new lonestar with a 600 cummins but the service at their dealerships seems to be garbage garbage garbage so I can't justify it. -
The older Internationals were very good trucks. I don't think you could beat them for reliability and cost of maintenance. I would not buy one newer than 2006 or when the CARB junk started. I would stay away from the Maxxforce or any brand specific engines. Find one with a Cummins, Detroit or CAT. I would look for one between the mid 1990's to mid 2000's. There are some good buys around. If you plan on running California, you may need to buy something that is 2007 or newer in order to comply with CARB regulations. These newer trucks with the DEF spend more time in the shop than running.

Maxxforce 7,DT,9,10,11,13 and 15 are by far the worst engines ever placed into the frame of a truck. Down time and Cost per mile on repairs for these things are astronomical. They are a ##### to service and the fix they need is not available from Navistar. If you want to go bankrupt buy one.
MilaAutoTransport Thanks this. -

There are plenty of towing companies out there that love the Prostar with the Maxxjunk motor in it.
